To Audrey H - wow a whinging Irishman/woman instead of a Pom!

Janie
audrey- you are obviously not a true aussie then if you don't call this beautiful place home-
to quote the great Mr Butler- home is where the heart is-

I've travelled the world too- and am happy to say that the land of OZ has as much to offer as any other country

our flora and fauna are stunning- from the beaches to the outback you'll see great scenary and awesome odd/cute animals... here etc
the people are generally approachable and warm

Yes we do have socio-economic and acknowledgment issues surrounding Aborigines (i.e. Govt. level)- however sadly- this is true with many colonized (or invaded) nations... sad stuff- however our new Govt. offers hope in this (and many other areas)...

I just spent 1 week camping in a National Park in the bush- the swims in the river, walks with amazing views/caves, feeling of sitting around the fire at night with mates drinking rum and blabbering on.. and the roo's and emu's I saw at dusk/dawn each day (around our tent)- not to mention all the birds e.g. pink and yellow crested gallahs.. it all was fantastic.. and cheap too
(also our party were the only ones staying there for the whole week)

cut the long story short-
come and visit us- 100% satisfaction guaranteed!

Don't believe all you hear. Brisbane is heaven.

Compared to where?

I live in Melbourne, and although I'm reasonably well travelled and have visited some AMAZING cities, and lived in London for a year, I am always happy to come home.

Sure, we have our problems, what major city doesn't? But, we also have great weather (if a little dry at the moment because of the drought), people are friendly, and there is a festival or party happening somewhere in the city almost every week (usually free).

That's just Melbourne, I also have a soft spot for Sydney. For much the same reasons as above, but add in the Harbour and surrounds they are as beautiful as everyone says.

I could go through the rest of the major cities too, but I'm sure there are plenty of others who could do it better.

Most major Australian cities regularly appear in the top 10 list of the worlds most liveable cities. Currently Melbourne is the #1 city in the world in which to live.

Elizabeth
I have no idea where these rumours start.
As previously mentioned, don't believe everything you hear and compared to where else.
I choose not to live in one of our big cities, but that's because I prefer the country life and no other reason.

Australia is a wonderful country to live in.
Here it is safe, clean and free of many of the problems associated with other countries.

Mister
(i heard the cities are not very nice? )

mate,you've heard wrong.

just an advice, if you are in some other people's place, you obey and follow the rules of the locals. and everything would be fine.

BigKev 2 (level 5)
Yes, that's right. All our cities are terrible places.

I tell that to everyone - so as they will select another country to try & better themselves.

Of course it is a good place to live. All the cities have great places to see, eat and lots of things to do. Don't believe everything you hear, see for yourself and make up your own mind.

Brisbane is my favourite city, its reasonably sized, Southbank is one of the best places to go because its like a beach in the middle of the city, they have these pools but there is sand and the markets there are always good to browse, Queen St is the place to go shopping, there are no cars allowed in that street and there are shops everywhere, a lot of designer stores too. So please where did you hear that our citys arn't that nice, I have to say New York is one place I would hate to vist, those dingy diners, the poloution and amount of awful yellow taxis is a huge turn off.

What are your sources Alix B? either they have had a one off bad experience... which happens no matter where you go... or they dont know what they are talking about. Im a teenager from Melbourne and to be 100% honest i think its great :). Out in the suburbs it might be a little boring but that goes for any standard sized city. What can I say? the street i live in is nice... its a short walk to the bus stop... easy access to public transport so i can go to the shops and see friends or catch a movie and on the ocassions when i can actually be bothered maybe take a day long bike ride along the yarra river trail all the way into the city centre where there is always something happening: possibly a suicide in a housing commision block of flats or maybe a back alley murder but 99.95% of the other things happening are always good i assure you. The free festivals and endless entertainment are all there as mentioned earlier and yeah yeah all that other stuff about shopping and night life bla bla bla its all here :) and I love it... I wont even begin to tell you what it is like away from the cities but its just beautiful. Research it because i dont think i have time to describe the rest of Australia to you because its late and i gotta go to bed :)

i live in adelaide.
it is a really pretty city, and not so much of a hole as everyone thinks, but personally i hate the whole of australia.

i do not see how anyone could love this hot, dry, dusty, uncultured new land.
im from ireland, i lived there for the first half of my life, and since it is such an old country with such history, i find it hard the belive that all australia has is convicts, oppression of aboridginals and other nasty things.

did you know that until 1970 aboriginals were includued in the 'Flora and Fauna" section of the law?
disgusting.

so yes, i dont know why anyone would want to live in this country, i am moving as soon as possible, take my advice and dont come here,

by the way i have been everywhere in australia, so dont people say that i have just been living in a hole.
