Sure it is. It is a big city so just like any other big city you need to use your common sense. Just remember, safety wise, don't do things when traveling that you wouldn't be game to do at home. Its a pretty safe country overall but nowhere in the world is safe when you are out alone very late at night etc. Have a great time here, i'm sure you'll love it. :)

Yes, Australia is a very safe place to live. You need to use simple commonsense, but even at night, you'll be OK provided you keep to reasonably well populated areas and don't go looking for trouble.
