There are only five living monotreme species: the platypus and four species of echidna (also known as spiny anteaters).
All of them are found only in Australia and New Guinea.

fruitsalad
Yes, just the platypus and the echidna.

No. All four surviving species of echidna can be found in New Guinea, which was part of the continent of Australia until quite recently (geologically speaking).

They're found in both Papua New Guinea and the Indonesian province of Papua, both of which are on the island called New Guniea. Saying they're found in Papua New Guinea, not New Guinea is like saying that the raccoon is found in Canada, not North America.

No there are 5 - they are found in Australia (Platypus) and Papua New Guinea (not New Guinea) which is just above Australia.

Platypus, Ornithorhyncus anatinus

Short-beaked Echidna, Tachyglossus aculeatus
Western Long-beaked Echidna, Zaglossus brujinii
Sir David's Long-beaked Echidna, Zaglossus attenboroughi
Eastern Long-beaked Echidna, Zaglossus bartoni

the division of the last three (Long beaked) is rather contention - some research assert they are all the same species. Scientific papers only list 3 species.

Yes, just the two of them
