Is calling someone bub or bubba a normal thing in Australia? |
I was just wondering, my BF lives in Australia and he calls me bub and bubba all the time, then I was reading an online forum and noticed someone else mentioning her BF called her bub. Are those normal names that Australians call each other, like you call each other mates? Just curious!!!! |

Bub is Australian slang for baby, but only used for actual babies, never heard it used to an adult though. |

Bubba is something you would call your small child. "Come here bubba". Not all the time, but if they are hurt etc. |

No its not a normal name to call an adult in Australia. It is however common in reference to an infant. |

No, I think it's unique to your boyfriend. I have heard men here call their GFs "babe", that's the closest I can think of. |

No it sounds unique to that person by the sounds of it. I have nbever used bub (except to a baby) or bubba and have never had it used back to me. We do have a lot of nicknames, or other names tha we use on and to each other, so maybe this is your friends words. It maybe that your friends heard it on TV or somewhere and liked it. We often hear names or slang terms on TV, and begin people begin using them. But no it is not very common to use or hear bub or bubba used in Australia. |

Nope, never heard it in my life.
BY THE WAY, we don't actually call each other 'mates' anyway. It's a stupid stereotype.
