Is finding (landing) a job difficult in Australia (specifically Sydney and Melbourne) as it is in London, UK?

I have had my share of bad experiences of not finding employment in London although i'm well qualified for the type of jobs i apply for. Lack of finding a job has really dampened my lifestyle to the point where i'm thinking of moving to Sydney or Melbourne. I want to know beforehand from anyone that has knowledge (whether it be from experience, a website or just rumour) about how easy or difficult it is to find a job in Sydney and Melbourne. And if u know whether the average lifestyle expense is higher in Sydney/Melbourne or in London it would be an added bonus. An estimation of 1 person's annual expense on food, accomodation and average chilling..(like going out twice a week) in Sydney/Melbourne would be even better.

For the record i am an international student studying BA in Advertising in London.

Thank you for taking your time to read this.......and hopefully answering.

its very difficult to immigrate to Australia, you have to pass a point system to qualify
if you have no family here to sponsor you you need to be a skilled worker in an occupation Australia is short of

when i went to the UK i found it very expensive compared to Australia

Australia has very high employment at the moment - and you obviously know about the getting a visa situation.
I found it much easier to get a job in London than I did in Australia - but I'm not in your field!
As for the cost of living - many people think that London is more expensive - but when you're earning pounds it isn't that bad! I find Sydney much less affordable - the prices are more than converted from pound stirling - but the wages aren't! For example, fruit a veges in Sydney are shockingly expensive compared to the UK, and the transport system is also much more expensive (as in, affordable, not a literal conversion from pounds to dollars) - and less frequent. Have a look on the website www.thegumtree.com to see the price of rent etc around Sydney. In London, I could eat out if I really wanted to, for say fifteen quid. In Australia, fifteen bucks won't buy jack. And I don't get paid two and a half times what I did in the UK pound, in dollars here! Anyway, if you can get a visa, you should go to Australia anyway - just for the experience! Everyone should do it at least once. Good luck.

If you are not getting jobs that you think you are well qualified for, then you are doing something wrong. Maybe you are not as "well qualified" as you think you are. Being a student it is difficult to see how you can actually be "qualified".
You cannot just turn up in Australia and start looking for work. You will need a work permit, and the only way to get one is to go to this site and start the application process.

And I might warn you that you do need to be "qualified" in order to get one.

I'm an Australian and a friend of mine (and her husband) are backpackers from England.

The only problem she's found in Australia (office jobs) is applying for jobs where references are so much more important here (apparently). It was very difficult for them to find jobs (and they have decent uni education and job experience from back home) without a reference.

So if you can find a way to protect yourself from this you would benefit.

Other than that there are many jobs available.

we are booming shortages of labour all through the economy
advertising may be a problem or may not be

i work for a government employment agency
try www.jobsearch.gov.au

anything under $30 000 would be tough but not impossible to live on

London is breathtakingly expensive how you poms live i just dont know
