I have worked with a lot of Yanks and "Snap frozen Yanks" in my days as a Diamond Driller and I will say it all depends on how fast you talk...
If I was talkin' to someone from the deep south, no dramas as I would be waiting with bated breath for them to finish their story, but someone who talks faster with that accent, yes it is a headache to understand...
Also we call a pen a Biro, and to you it must sound like borrow, I could not get my point across to a Yank once that I needed a writing device, he thought I wanted to borrow something...

Except for some of those rap clowns, most people are easy |

But Why??

can you repeat the question, icouldnt understand ya. |

well at first it's weird talking to an american person in person and not watching them on tv, but it's pretty easy to get used to, it's actually weirder hearing an australian on an american show |
|

Im ok now
 |
I think it is mostly because we have different words for things than they do, not necessarily the accent. My bf does the same to me, and I do the same to him. I tell him "speaky the english", he tells me they speak the Queens english and we have mangled it! |

Not really, we get American TV, so it's not too foreign. But I guess it depends on which part of America you are from. |

Not usually, we are hear them a lot on tv and the movies.
BUT, in real life things do always sound a bit differenjt, so I can imagine that sometimes your friend might miss a word here and there.
Cheers :-) |

I'm good with understanding accents as had a lot of experience . But for some people that aren't concentrating to hard and not used to it,then it could be a little difficult |

I think that it depends which part of America you come from as there are so many different accents. |

No way.....
About half of our TV shows come from the USA so we see alot of different American accents pretty frequently! |

I don't think so, I've always thought it was the other way round. The only American accent I have a little bit of trouble understanding is the New York accent (could be Brooklyn). On youtube, most Americans think Australian videos are British. |

Depends on what part of America you are from. Texan accents, we just try not to laugh at. The only american accents we normally hear, are either George Bush, or the TV stars. And it also depends on their hearing skills. Because I was raised in a family that places great importance on articulating words properly (going to, instead of Gunna etc), I have trouble understanding those who slur their words |

Not any of the accents I've come across but maybe your accent is strong. |
|

Jay

It depends how strong your accent is, some sound just like Aussie while some sound like they are speaking a different language. |
