There are occasional small tremors in Sydney

Yes. The Newcastle earthquake in 1989 was felt in Sydney. Earthquakes are rare.

Dan
Australia does not sit on any plate boundaries like other countries but it is still possible.

Can't anything happen these days?

There was one in Newcastle (around 2 hours north of Sydney) before.

Yes, I was in Parramatta in 1989 and I felt the Newcastle 5.6 earthquake !!

It made me feel a little giddy, as everything seemed just a little wobbly, and I hadn't even had a drink !! :)

Catherine
Possible but not likely...

Toxic Tears
proabaly not, sydney doesn't sit near any two tectonic plates. even if we were to have one it would be a tiny shudder you wouldn't even notice
