Is it possible to get an apprenticeship in Australia if you are 16?

Really want to do a plumbing apprenticeship, and would love to do it in Australia as opposed to the UK where everything seems to be against you.

Yes for sure!
Best thing is do a school based apprenticeship if you want to still graduate from school - your school guidance counselor can sort set up interviews etc for you .....

Not sure what state you are in or if your school does it, but my son went through Aclaim (they come to your school) http://www.acclaim.com.au/apprenticeships.htm

Apprenticeship Criteria:::
Must be aged 16 and over
Completion of grade ten is essential with a pass in Maths and English
Current drivers license and access to private transport
Preference may be given to candidates who have completed a School-Based Traineeship or graduated from a TAFE Pre-Apprenticeship or similar course.

Hello. Yes it is as my son is 15 years old and he can get a apprenticeship. It is really easy but the best way is to walk from shop to shop and tell them what you are looking for. If you need any help just email me and i will give you some email addresses as they are looking for heaps in Queenslands for apprenticeships and cannot get anyone to do them. Hope this is some help. Good Luck...

YOur difficulty might be the maths tests etc. YOu'd be competing for an apprenticeship with people who had completed 12 years of education, and who at 17 or 18might seem more mature ... however, you might be able to attend school and do a school-based apprenticeship to start off with- best to apply to immigration or if you have right of entry you need to find out what education you are entitled to. Not sure if you have to be a permanent resident to go to TAFE but I htink itmight be the case.

yes you can get an apprenticeship In Australia at 16 with parental guidance. there are workplace agreements that have to be signed by an adult. I f you aren't already liiving in Australia you will probably find it difficult to arrange everything not to mention the competiton of Australians applying for the apprenticeships

Australia now have mature age apprentices as well... people looking for a job change

SkyBlue
Yes, of course you can. 16 is usually the youngest age for apprenticeships here.

There is a shortage of trades people in Australia at the moment!

tuppenybitz
you would need to find an Australian company willing to employ you, then try to get the permits you need to allow you to live and work in Australia
can be a long and expensive process

At 16 you are allowed to get an apprenticeship here in Australia although rules do differ slightly from state to state. You can go to TAFE to do a pre apprenticeship course which is usually 6 months long and that tends to help towards getting you employment.
