I have climbed it, and walked around it. Apart from the fact that you should respect the desires of the traditional owners and not climb it, walking around it is MUCH more interesting. |

Yes, it is possible to climb the rock, however it is discouraged by the aborigines as it is a sacred site. They do not stop you climbing but if you honour their wishes they will take you to other places normally not seen by the average tourist and give explanations of paintings and their culture. Climbing the rock is at your own risk, it is quite steep and people have actually fallen off and died or had heart attacks whilst attempting to climb. Sometimes it is closed due to high wind but usually the area is quite calm. It is also possible to walk around the outside perimeter. |

Yes you can climb it and it´s hard work in places, there are a load of plaques at the bottom dedicated to the unfortunate who climbed it and then carked it or were just chasing their lens caps. Bet they wish they hadn´t attempted it know and that it had been closed.
It is apparently offensive to the local aborigines if you climb it but they are still very happy to take your tourist dollars on the drive to the rock.
Do it though, well worth it. |

Q:Whats higher Table Mountain In South Africa or Uluru in Australia A: Table Mountain reaching almost 1000 metres (trivia sorry) what a fascinating place to visit ( proposed to my wife on top some years back ) and yes the rock is open to climbers and as already mentioned and can be closed to bad weather .The link below is what you need. |

Depends on the weather conditions. But you better don't climb at all. It's a sacret place for the Aboriginals and you should respect this.Do a walk around the rock. I did several times and each time it had been wonderful.
Needless to say that I never even tried to climb it. |

A number of people have died doing it. Older people of heart attack, younger people falling off. If you go, check out the memorial at the base near the steps going up. Its a hard climb and dangerous at times. |

Yes you can climb it. However, it is not encouraged as it is a sacred Aboriginal site. My husband and I both visited Uluru last year and were planning to climb. After hearing about the customs, and unfortunate things that had happened to people who climbed, we decided against it. I am glad that I did not climb as it would have been very disrepectful. I was told that it would be the same as dancing on a grave or defacing a buddha statue etc. |

You can climb it but its a real challenge...and I disagree to slipper I didn't experience that MOST Aussies don't climb it for respect to the people native to this country. My Australian Tour guide tried to force us climbing it... |
