on the whole Australian girls don't like American guys any more than the rest of the world does. |

I think royalpain is pulling your leg. We like to have a joke on the Yanks cause your sense of humour is so different to ours.
It's all going to depend on the girl of course, but I think Americans have an advantage over Australian men because they're willing to actually approach a woman, make contact and give her a compliment. Aussie men (especially in Sydney) are very backwards in coming forward and I reckon they miss out on a lot of opportunities. Got to be in it to win it, right? However, that said, you might need to tone it down just a little if the girl isn't used to such a lot of attention. After all, we're used to being somewhere down the list of priorities below beer, cricket, mates, his ute... |

No more than they like any other nationality.
Girls hanging around the docks waiting for troop ships are known by the same name all over the world I think. |

Me personally? No not really. I prefer an Aussie bloke anyday they are way more laid back and if I hooked up with an American there would be a problem because there would be no chance of me moving to America to be with him.
Although....for Brad Pitt I may just reconsider... |

Sorry, I don't think you will like my answer. I live in a small, very friendly and safe area in Central Queensland. However, every few years there is a military exercise and we are swamped with hundreds of Marines. When out at night they are loud, drunk and obnoxious. They grope women and taunt them if they turn down their advances. I know that I should not generalise but these men have tainted my opinion of American men. |

My best friend Travis visited Australia during his tenure with the USMC.
Upon leaving the ship, he had been ashore no more than 10 minutes when an Australian farmer came forth to him and offered him the services of his daughter as a guide and entertainer.
Travis took him up on the offer. This is customary for Australians to do this, and she was and still is quite a looker.
She took an immediate liking to Travis, and a year after they first met, he arranged for her to come to America.
She stayed 3 weeks and then became his wife. They are still happily married today. |

I hate to say it but Kasobe is right on the money! I went out with an American guy and he was brilliant. The whole dating concept in the US though is quite different to here. Aussie guys don't ask a girl out unless he is very keen on her so Aussie girls sometimes freak out about the whole casual dating concept. The idea of dating two people at a time is also not done often. Usually it is called 'just going out' as friends and maybe later they will start seriously 'dating'. Just be careful with your terminology. I ended up marrying an Australian anyway, but respect the good points of the US guys. |
