Is it true that Australians can drink beer faster than regular people by somehow keeping their throats open? |

It's not necessarily an Australian phenomena. It's just that we have had more practice at skulling I guess.
When you swallow your adams apple goes up and the airpie is sealed off. If you forcibly hold it in this position you can get a lot of alcohol down in minimum time.
The trick then comes in keeping it down. Sure you can get a whole bottle of Johny Walker down in 2 seconds but can you hold it down?
There was a russian vodka drinking competition about two years ago. The winner managed to get it all down in record time but died shortly after the event. |

its as true as the pet kangaroos everyone has in the back yard - i think u will find most guys can do it if they have drank beer from a young age, but our beers are better and easier to drink |

Actually anyone can do it. Go to your local college and ask the kids about "funnels" and you can learn too!!! ;) |

This is an example of "evolution in progress", is it not? Australian mens throats (and those of their Sheilas) are widening to accommodate the extra beer with each passing generation. It was this that prompted the goverment there to mandate that beer be served in quart or half-gallon mugs to replace the former standard of pints or quarts.
Cheers. |

Although this rumour is just that, I can shed some light on where it started, because, like all good rumours, it has an element of truth. Bob Hawke, former australian prime minister, could skull beer unnaturally fast because he had no gag reflex, he could literally pour beer (or any other beverage) straight down his throat, just like pouring it from one glass to another, he didn't have to swallow. Bob Hawke actually held the world record for the fastest consumption of beer, which was 2.5 pints in 11 seconds!! (thanks to wikipedia for the exact times) So it was only one Australian who could do this, but he was the most famous Australian for a while, so there you go. Not that we don't all try and copy him on a daily basis! |

It is infact possible to keep your throat open. It can be found in people all throughout the world though. it has nothing to do with them being from Australia. |
