No.
I am Asian - lived here for over 30 years.
NEVER been subjected to racial discrimination nor vilification.
I'm NOT saying abuse or discrimination don't exist - but these incidents are NOT the norm. We are all Australian.
Cheers |

I'm not a racist person by any means, but I do notice a lot of discrimination. Never throwing bricks though. Thats a bit extreme.
I do get angry at Asian and Indian drivers though! |

Unfortunately racism is world-wide and is definitely present here in Australia, as much as most of us don't like to admit it. We promote ourselves as a multicultural country and indeed we are, such is life though that not everyone is going to get along and there are narrow minded people in this world, and in this country. That said though, I know many people here from all over the world and many of them have never had to experience racial abuse, I guess some areas are better than others. |

(Update: Actually 6% of Australia is of Asian background, which is above 1 million people, in response to that English person, Casey.)
---
I am Australian and not racist myself, and from what I know Australians are NOT, but I know the reasons why some people from our country get annoyed by other races coming here.
Australia is famous for having many cultures mixed together, to make the Australian culture
What annoys other people, (and it doesn't have to be racism) is that people from asian countries come, start their own little groups or clubs, make their own bits of culture away from other people, and refuse to join in with the Australians, mix into our ways of life, and instead stick to their own
People ask the question: why come to Australia when you still stick your ways from your passed country?
I have a good asian friend myself, he tries hard to mix in with people other than from his race, and does our way of life at school and with his friends, even if his family at home doesn't. Everybody respects him and not a single person makes racial jokes etc.
I guess it all comes down to what sort of person you are and what you have been brought up to believe, but Australians are not racist in general |

It is not true!!!!
Many come to Australia and want the country to adapt to them, well why the heck should it. Australians are accepting to those who wish to accept our way of life. If you come here and refuse to speak our language, then we get annoyed.
In fact, how dare you even ask this question! I know you meant no offense, but such a question is guaranteed to create disagreement and anger. You should know better. |

QLD RULES

No its not true, Believe us Aussies don't go out of their way to pick on new immigrants, just for the fun of it. We Aussies are too busy living our lives to care what colour you are or where you come from.
We judge on FACE value and not on where you come from and this is what I love about Aussies is we do not stereotype groups of people or categorised we only go on face value.
I hope this info will help you.
Oh one more thing ''DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER'' |

I think in the major cities like Melbourne and Sydney (not widespread just in certain suburbs) where there are kind of ethnic clumps and immigrants don't integrate with the rest of society there is certainly racial tension - not just from white Australians but between ethnic groups. But in the smaller cities and towns people generally have more manners and treat others with respect regardless of where they are from and what their personal beliefs may be. |

It is true that there has been a lot of negative attitude targeted towards Chinese and Indian people.I believe that a lot of it is a two way process in that some migrants find it difficult to get used to a new country and as a result resort to living the way that is the most comfortable to them.Often these ways clash with our views of life and some people are being discriminated against.A lot of migrants from China find it difficult to learn English and some Australians find this offensive.I am a migrant too and feel that it is important for migrants to attempt to integrate and adopt to the life style. What some Australians don't understand is that often migrants are isolated and some groups tend to live in suburbs that are dominated by that culture. This creates the image that they do not want to be part of our culture. |

Australia is as racist as any other country. You can't single out a whole country as being racist. I am an Australian and I don't go out of my way to insult people from different nations. If I am going to insult somebody it is because of them as a person, not their race. Unfortunately not every Australian is like that and yes people do get harassed because of their race, but to say the whole country is racist is generalising a bit too much. |

ok.
alot of people answering don't sound Australian.
australia is one of the most multicultural places in the world.
racism is not tolerated and i don't think other countries realize that were all mates here.

Not really. I live in an area which is predominantly Chinese and Indian. I am the odd one out when I go to the shops. The thing is, they get on with their life and we get on with ours. I do know that the Chinese give better service to the Chinese. The Indians are always polite, but as a woman I get a bit disregarded. I grew up in an area that was very white anglo and yes there was some racial slurs made when I was younger. But this was before there were so many Chinese here. Now I don't think it is a big deal and people are used to them. What I see though is that it only occurs because they don't want to integrate either through fear or that they want to keep their own traditions and customs alive. It's really now the older generation that discriminate. |

You are talking about other country first you tell about your own country what is happening in Bombay What they are saying about Adnan sami(Canadian). What happen to German girl? Are these things not discrimination? When these things happen in India and now world is not a big place. Like terrorizem is there in every place racial discrimination is also there in every part of world. |

I do not believe the brick comment for a second. I don't go around carrying bricks in my bag, and neither does anyone else I know or have ever come across in my lifetime walking down the street.
We are not racist, and it is a whole lot of BS that judgements are made saying that we are.
The only thing that can be frustrating, is when you need to go somewhere, and you walk down the street and there is not a single word of english, written or spoken anywhere. There are groups that refuse to integrate into Australian society, and in a way, this shows just how tolerant we are towards other cultures. We let them make their colonies and little towns and we don't say anything about it.
During the Cronulla riots, white australians were called racist and every other word you can think of. In fact, being a white australian, you couldn't walk down the street without fear of being attacked. There were men of middle eastern decent roaming the streets everywhere. we felt targetted because we were white! White men were stabbed when putting their rubbish bins out, and a young teenage girl was raped.
Racism is not just something white people do to everyone else. White people are also subject to racism.
If you are comfortable in your own skin, then everyone should just get over it and live their life. |

Australia is an EXTREMELY racist place, anyone non-white wouldn't be happy there.
-----
Why shouldn't they be. They come to australia by the hundreds of thousands (soon millions), don't integrate and create their own little colonies. Do we go to their countries and change their ways?
-----
I **** myself when I read that. Australia has a low immigration rate, and they come by the thousands. I didn't remember the population jumping from 18 million to 30. PS: Some racist Australians think they're better than the aborigines when they are descendants of petty criminals, and enemys of the state of England. xD. |
