I do believe that is correct. I am from NSW and I believe it is also the case here. It is just that it is so rare for someone to be caught doing it.

However it would be considered one of several unsafe driving habits which if discovered by a policeman you could indeed be fined for.

liss<3
yea i heard something like that too - in NSW its like that too. it must just be thongs because they aren't secure and slip easily.

In most states in the US it is illegal to drive barefoot. Many people follow Do not follow this rule , as I always see people, especially women putting shoes on before they get out of the car.We however have no law that says anything about flip flops.

bone
its like the jaywalking of driving crimes.

Well thongs and barefeet are part in pacel of the Australian Culture along with stubbies and singlets. Generally the police have bigger things to worry about than your foot wear and either of the options are safer than a someone wearing 9 inch heals. Some hire car companies do not allow it, such as 4x4 Vehicles on Fraser Island.

barefoot is OK
but not with thongs
