There is a small population of feral Indian Palm Squirrels that live in and in the area surrounding the South Perth Zoo. They look very cute but are considered to be a pest.

holly
We do but they are not native to Australia Go to http://www.scarysquirrel.org/vacation/australia/story.html

fruitsalad
No, we definately have no squirrels, and hardly any of the other animals found in the rest of the world either. We have our own native animals.

Yep, no Squirrels, only in the zoo's..

Cleora
Nope no squirrels. I remember the first time I went to America and saw a squirrel I nearly shat myself at the site of the thing. Seeing a racoon was even worse . . . that was just scary!!

Dot
no squirrels in the wild here.

ebony.
i'm from australia.
and i don't think we have squirrels.
i've never seen one anyway.

We have possums. Quite a range of possums.
Ringtail Possum (widespread)
Brushtail Possum (widespread)
Mountain Brushtail Bobuck (thick bush/mountains Queensland)
Striped Possum (northern Queensland only)
Green Possum (northern Queensland only)
Herbert River Possum (northern Queensland only)
Pigmy Possum (several varieties, Tasmania to north Queensland)
and of course a range of gliders, which are technically possums.

My apologies to any I missed.

No squirrels, no hamsters (hamsters are a prohibited import) no bears, no native deer of any kind.

Teri
Bahahaha yes.

My friend has cousins who lives in Australia, and they state that they have kangaroos there like we have squirrels...and when they visit, they freak out when they see a squirrel because they hardly ever see them [only when they're here, of course]

Bella B
Squirrels are not indigenous to Australia. I am not sure there are any in any zoo's either.

Australia has no native cats or bears (koalas "bears" are not bears) or large grazers (horses, deer etc).

We have marsupials (kangaroo, koala, wombat, echidna, platypus...)
