Is it worth going to Australia for 2 weeks in December.Wewould like to go mainly to Sydney?

Two weeks is not really long enough BUT if it can only be two weeks then I would be tempted to do a Sydney harbour, Rock and reef tour as most of those on offer are for about 2 weeks duration.
Australia is so far from the UK that you should do as much as possible in those two weeks. And like someone else said ...try and see some bush. Also Sydney is more than just another city! It is clean and has so much to see and do. Be sure to try and fit in doing the bridge climb, visit centr-point tower and see the faulous views of Sydney. Do a harbour cruise as you will get faulous photo opportunities, go shopping in the malls and also if time take the ferry over and see Manley beach and Bondi.

Absolutely!! However I am biased because I live here!! December is a great time to visit as the weather is really warm...temperatures can get up to 30 degrees Celsius so pack your swimsuit!! There are so many things to do...where do I start? Make sure you visit the beach - Bondi, Bronte or Cronulla; the Harbour Bridge Climb is amazing, visit Taronga zoo and cuddle a koala; wander around the markets at Paddington (very cool place to shop!); visit Oxford Street and Kings Cross for an eye opening experience; have a meat pie at Harry's Cafe De Wheels at Wooloomoloo; catch the ferry to Manly beach for fish and chips; go up Centerpoint Tower to the revolving restaurant; visit the Art Gallery; the War Memorial....and that's only the start of it!!

It's worth coming to Australia any time, especially if you're escaping the northern hemisphere winter for a little while.

*World class entertainment and shopping.
*Great landmarks and Restaurants etc.
I'm starting to sound like an advertisement. Just keep in mind that Sydney is very hot in December so pack accordingly and be sure to hit the beach.

i recommend the harbour & bridge, opera house, taronga zoo, manly beach (catch the ferry to manly from circular quay- its the most beautiful thing ever!), avalon beach, chinatown, anywhere in the northern beaches (where i live!), botanical gardens, paddington (for shopping)

Hi i went in march for 5 weeks and it took almost 1 week to adjust ha i was up at 5am and in bed by 6pm the jet lag wasnt the best but you can get tablets now that reduce the chances of jetlag someone i know took them when they went to NZ and said they were fantastic i never tried them maybe i should have!! personally i would go for 3 weeks but if thats not possible just the experience of being there could be worth it.

were going to aussie for xmas and new year..sydney included..3 weeks would be better if possible and flown there before and had no problem with jet lag..you could have a problem with accommodation over xmas..brilliant city ..im sure you would love it ..go for it x

Good Luck! it will be the start of the school holidays so it will be more crowded than usual. The Harbour is always popular with the tourists, so is Taronga Park Zoo, a ride on the ferry to Manly or a trip around the Harbour, the historical area of the Rocks and your hotel should have heaps of brochures for day trips and sightseeing.

It sure is, we have been to Australia twice this year, once for a month and the second time for just over 2 weeks, its surprising what you can fit in in that time, wonderful place and lovely people,enjoy.

Sydney is OK -- to me its just another big city and you can see them the world over. THat said, if you spend time in Sydney make sure to single out the major landmarks/attractions only.

Also make the effort to see the surrounding areas and perhaps take an internal flight to other parts of the state/country.

You've not got a lot of time down here - lovely time of the year to come though, it will be lovely and warm so make sure you bring your swim suit!

Hmm, 2 weeks is a bit short if you are flying from the UK!

The flight usually takes 1-2 days and then it takes up to 2-3 days until you are fully recovered. When I got there I was just knackered for about 3 days.

So say you leave on the Friday, you might get there Sunday morning, then you will be recovered from the jet lag by Tuesday Wednesday. That will only really give you a week and a half.

Plus for the cost of the ticket (Â£600-700) is it really worth it for two weeks. And trust me, if you have never been before the flight is HELL. 21 hours feels like 50 hours. Dehydration, sickness, fatigue, lack of sleep, sheer boredom are just a few of the things you will have to put up with.

I would not go to Australia if it was not for a minimum of 3 weeks to a month.

But if money is not an issue for you then go for it.
