Hell no, mate!

The living cost in Sydney, Melbourne or any of the major centres is higher than in the major cities in US. Don't just take my word for it.

You'd struggle to get along at AUD$50,000 a year. Thats about US$38000 per year. Thats just maintaining a middle class living.

You funny yank, don't you dare say "Whats that in REAL money?" Aussie dollar is real money too.

If you ever want to do anything high-end, you'd probably need to double or triple that.

Alana Lama -Go Eagles-
If you go work in the mines in the north of western Australia then you will be on $100 000 AUS a year (all you need is a drivers license) and that makes you practically RICH.

I would say bring all the money that you have. Its no good in America. Cost of living in major cities is high, but we are a big country and there is more to us than Sydney and Melbourne. Queensland is the best state as the weather is good all year round. Fantastic in summer. Life is a beach here. We are laid back and approachable. We love an American accent. You will have to pass an immigration check and you cant live here unless you have a job lined up or are a skilled worker.
We drive on the other side of the road than you and that might take a bit of getting used to. We have all the stuff you have in America only we are a bit behind on your TV shows. lol

Definately doesn't feel that way for me.
Im 21, completely independent from my parents in every way including financially.
I recieve student income support so that I can go to university and I also have a part time job. By the time I pay rent, groceries, electricity, phone, internet, as well as transport costs (eith public transport or my car including fuel and the cost of parking), as well as any associated cots with uni, I usually have about $10 to $20 to spare per fortnight.
And those few dollars I have left over go pretty quickly too, on things like going to the doctor (50 dollars upfront and you get about 30 back in a rebate), medications, any social activities, house repairs. Just this week I had to go buy a tin of paint to fix my wall, so I officially have $5 left until Friday. So Im going to be living on fruit, bread and noodles for the next few days!
So pretty much, i would say no, it is not cheap, and I dont know anyone who actually feels that way at them moment with the cost of everything going up constantly.

It depends.

Some areas of Australia are cheaper than some areas in America, but I am sure that it will work the other way around in other areas.

Where are you coming from, and where would you go to, and for how long ?

Then maybe more relevant info will be available to you.
