Australia and New Zealand has almost the same relation what Canada and USA has.
Different countries, different governments, different english accent, but they dont require visas to visit each other.

RDG78
No. It is a separate nation. The Kiwis will slap you with a cricket bat for suggesting otherwise.

tuppenybitz
you must be joking !

is india a part of america?

hmmm not quite, we are sepeerated by alot of water, (even tho somehow tasmania still gets to be apart of oz) he he

we're totally seperate countries

Charlie
No, it is a totally separate and independent country.

Aussie
Heck no ! We fight each other on the sports field but share a common heritage , language , historical past....both have a British colonial history but our indigenous folk come from completely different cultures.

As a people group we have more in common than we do differences & our economies are linked in many ways...we are geographically in the same region but while they freeze their buts off for much of the time we have a more temperate climate .

In short , we have close ties with our cousins across the ditch & to a large extent there has been a lot of cross pollinating going on for the last 20 years especially.

QLD RULES
At the rate of Kiwis coming to OZ we will become a State of New Zealand.

Mrs M
Expect some serious backlash from the New Zealand folk here.

Is China part of America ??

Get yourself a world map and study it hard !!

ChaZ
When we were both first being colonised we were. but then the Kiwis went all French Canada on us, and actually became a seperate nation from us. We wanted to establish our selves as a seperate government from the United Kingdom to become our own independant nation, and then out no where NZ used that to not only seperate it's self from UK but also from Aus. Heck, if you check all the historical papers in regards to Aus getting it's independants, it includes New Zealand as on of the states of Australia, but NZ wanted wanted to be seperate from Australia. Go figure.

Yes it is. In exactly the same way that Canada is part of the United States of America.

Hahaha. I'm a Canuck. One of my really good friends is a Kiwi; I think she's been feeding me pro-Kiwi propaganda...I never really looked at it as analogous to the Frogs. That's damn funny.

Well I guess it's good they didn't want independence even though they were right smack in the middle of your country

ellegee3012
Where on earth are you from?
Didnt you do GEOGRAPHY in school?
AUSTRALIA and New Zealand
have nothing to do with each other than both be on the southern end of the earth?? !! ??
Its the same as asking is Australia and South Africa the same because they are both below the equator??
We are totally separate....
physically...mentally and spritually........!!!
different cultures entirely.!!!!!!!!!!!

Eileen W
We have a joke that the New Zealand National Anthem is "I Still Call Australia Home", because so many live here in Oz. However despite there being more Kiwis in Australian jails than in New Zealand ones, the two are very distinct separate countries. Kiwis (New Zealanders - named after a flightless bird found only in NZ) have a very distinct accent which sounds more like South African than Australian.
indigenous Australians are the Aborigines who settled in Australia from the Indo-Asian region many thousands of years ago.
before white settlement of NZ, the Maoris travelled from the South Pacific Polynesiaa) region to settle.
Both countries belong to the region called Australasia and were both colonies of Great Britain and remain part of the British Commonwealth.

Diane G
LOL... not yet but we are working on it!!

New Zealand is very much its own country and very proud of it and so is Australia.

New Zealand has a hilarious post-card that shows NZ the size of Australia and Aus the size of NZ, and calls Australia their "West Island".
In return Australians jokingly calls NZ their 7th and 8th states.

Only we are allowed to say that!

No, though it's part of the same continent.

Hope this answers your question :-) x
