Yes its a beautiful place to live for anyone, there is a bit of difference in the 2 places you mention- Richmond is a small Georgian village 30-40 minutes form the centre of Hobart ans is a major tourist spot. Sandy bay is a riverside suburb just to the south of the CDB and is one of the more expensive and areas |

I lived in Tasmania for 17 years. I would recommed both Richmond and Sandy Bay. Both Beautiful Destinations. |

Sandy Bay is a lovely area, known as being probably the most well-to-do suburb of Hobart, and hence quite expensive. Richmond is also very pretty and quaint, if you're into peace and quiet, but it's a bit of a drive to the major cities from there.
Tasmania in general is a beautiful place to live. People are friendly and down-to-earth, and the natural beauty of Tasmania is just incredible. If you're looking for cultural diversity and open-mindedness, I'd avoid the North-West Coast. But areas such as Launceston and Hobart are becoming a lot more tolerant of diversity and more cosmopolitan. Another thought in terms of retiring to Tasmania - the area around Sheffield and Mt Roland, in the North of the state, is very beautiful and I've often thought it would be a great place to retire to, if you don't mind cold weather.
Good luck! |

Tasmania is a great place. I would love to go and live there. If he likes the outdoors he will love it. |

Well I think so.....but it depends of course on what you like. Hobart is a lovely small city with a lovely climate - I think mild, warm in summer and not too cold in winter - snow on the mountain but not much in the city. Beautiful island and only 1 hour to Melbourne by plane. |

Hey I live here and it's a really nice place in my opinion. I have family living in Sandy bay. It's quite cool in the winter, if your dad doesn't mind that he should love it. It's not too big but there's plenty to do.
I'd recommend it! |
