I think it's absolutely healthy to have a laugh at yourself, but I hate to think that people OS think we 're all like that. We really are not you know!

Yes. Of course !
It is — from my point of view — the
best movie about Australia... it is fun.
You need a "special kind of humor" to understand
"Crocodile Dundee", but it's more worth than
hard score stuff as "Mad Max"....

somewhat i'm sure as putting Austraila out there..... but then, its not so healthy as to the idiotic it does give the impression that every Australian wrestles crocs on a daily basis, and can talk to animals like doctor doolittle and erm, walks around saying things like, "Maybe the dingo ate your baby...." rofl.
( i know that line isn't from Crocodile Dundee lol... but its' still associated with the country ROFL)........ idk, it has its pros and cons... but then again.... it's just a movie!!! *sighs* gossh! |

Yes it is.
We're not all like Mick Dundee but there are some people like him here.
You can be certain won't find any of them in the cities but they are out there. |

Yes.
Because an over exaggerated identity is better than no identity at all...
I know someone who was recently overseas talking to 'locals' and they didn't know where Australia was in the world, or its rough size. No idea at all. If it werent' for movies like Crocodile Dundee there are people that may still not have heard of Australia...
Plus, I think it does show a lot about the Australian identity, maybe not literally, but at least in spirit :) |

Mick Dundee is a slightly exaggerated version of some types of Australians. But the same type of man can be found elsewhere, I'd look at the western USA, parts of Africa, Canada and Brazil or Argentina for local equivalents.
He is smart, perhaps not a lot of education though that is not necessary to the character, has a strong sense of humor and the ridiculous, a good deal of practical experience and a pretty skeptical view of a lot of things that some people seem to think are important.
As my mother said when she saw the movie yonks ago - "I've known people like that all my life." |

Crocodile Dundee is a comedy and Australians like that because we have the ability to laugh at ourselves. At the same time, your 'average' Aussie isn't a croc hunter and most men wouldn't shave with a knife! |
