yes there are.

skattered0077
Okay...Australia is about 70 percent and is the driest continent on earth, apart from Antartica....

At present, desert covers a large part of Australia, The Great Sandy Desert, The Gibson Desert and the Great Victoria Desert combine to fill more than half of Western Australia. To the east lies Tanami Desert, The Simpson Desert, and The Sturt's Stony Desert.

So yes, there are LOTS of deserts in Australia!

shoe s
the majority of the country is a desert

CPT Kremin
Several. They are hot and dry... Australia is 70% arid. Alice Springs has the only zoo/wildlife park dedicated to the desert environment and is the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

They are fascinating places full of life.

I'm guessing you're either not of school age yet or you're American

most of oz is desert! Great Sandy Desert, Vic Desert, Simpson Desert, Gibson Desert, Tanami Desert, Sturt Desert, just to name a few..........get out an atlas and read!

Dark Horse D
Hi Heather

There are many deserts in Australia.

Even in some of the greenest states like Victoria there are small deserts towards the centre of the country.

Some of the other answerers said the country is almost all desert. This is not true. There are moutain ranges, rain forests, and various other types of terrain all around Australia, particularly in towards the coastal areas.

I hope this helps

guy0307
Of Course!
most of the dessert is around Western Australia & South Australia & Northern Territory.
