Yes, there is - but you probably won't see it.

There is discrimination EVERYWHERE - but it is usually a minority and even less being shown now that there is a law against many forms of discrimination (race, religion, disability etc).

Australia is a great place. I don't think you have any thing to worry about.

Cheers
(Asian born Aussie)

I have lived in Western Australia for over 85 years - and racism is on the decline. People are a lot more tolerant now.

Steph
There is discrimination everywhere but the general population isn't racist just the usual one or two idiots.

I think everyone else has got it covered! Of course you will come across racial discrimination - it unfortunately still happens everywhere. But these "people" are a minority and you would learn to avoid the places where they congregate. Overall, because Australia is such a multicultural place, it is a more tolerant place.

I'm an australian and i didn't think we are that bad until 3 of my asian friends have told me that there are quite a few ignorant people around who feel the need to share their opinions. Sorry I think it might be everywhere.

Isabelle....
I do not know but the last time I was there - about 10 years ago - Asians and whites mixed very well. I was taken by surprise actually because it was not the case in other countries. You would see them everywhere mixing together. Am in Canada now and I do not see that at all.

Australia is wonderful place with a majority of lovely people . There are few ignorant people however. Yes there are some discrimination. But like everyone else has said, it's everywhere.
