My husband came to Australia last year from Ireland and hasn't had a problem at all finding work.He became self employed straight away and hasn't had to advertise yet,as there is so much work.
You will need a health a safety card before you can work on any building site. They cost around $200 dollars, you have to do a day course, and each state has their own card,so if you get a Victorian red card, but then decide to
work in Queensland you will have to get a Queensland one.
I hope every thing works out for you if you decide to come to Australia.

There is so much work here in Perth WA that houses are taking over 2 years to even be started. Then as the tradesmen are moving around between so many jobs, once started the houses take 7 months to 2 years to be built. We are screaming out for carpenters. My hubby is a chippie and we moved here last year from the north of the state, even though he had a heap of work up there...as the pay is much better down here with chippies earning between $35 and $55 an hour. (Depending on what you do!)

There is SO much building work in Aussie no carpenters would ever get turned down!

SteveK
Short answer - YES!

Many parts of OZ are screaming for builders and would welcome them from anywhere in the world - not just carpenters but anyone having anything to do with putting up a house (eg. tilers are in short supply too).

As you have heard, Perth is booming, and so is Brisbane and just about the whole of south-east queensland (and, of course, many other parts of the country).

Finding a job as a carpenter won't be difficult. We have a shortage of skilled tradespeople at the moment. So basically as long as you know your job and the prices are reasonable you'll find customers anywhere.

renae
can't speak for the rest of the country but Western Australia is in a building crisis - not enough builders! So your friends will be doing very well for themselves!!!

daisyrose
yes new zealand the same, building trade be booming for the last 6years, screaming out for skilled workers

There's a huge housing boom here in Mackay Queensland at the moment and I'm sure there's heaps of work here for carpenters.... we are right on the central coast of Qld only 1.5 hour drive to Airlie Beach (the Whitsundays). Would be a perfect place to work and play! Good Luck :-)

Absolutely. Queensland is having a boom. Particularly South East Queensland. People are having long waits to get their homes built.
And in regional areas, the mines are the place to be.
There is a current skills shortage in Australia and it is an excellent time to be a tradie.
