Is this true about Australia? |
I have an African friend who's dying to visit Australia but people say that she won't be accepted because of the majority of whites.Should she risk being discriminated? |

Australians have a belief in the 'fair go' which means that everyone should have the same opportunities and this is widely shared. But the other side of this is that people aren't given special favors because of race, creed, origin, etc (though overt discrimination is of course illegal) as, for example, in the US. With 20m people there will no doubt be some bigots which can't be helped but as a (white) American who has lived in both countries I'd say that Australia was a generally more tolerant and integrated (at least in major cities) than the US. |

don't quote me on this, but I've heard that in some parts of queensland, ANY tourist has a chance of some sort of negative attention. Despite that, Australians are probably one of the most friendly people I have ever met, and I don't think your friend should avoid going there on the basis that there are some people there (like in all countries) that aren't as welcoming. |

Completely untrue! Tell her she should definately go to Australia and will have the time of her life.
Queensland, because of its great climate etc is probably the most frequented tourist destination after Sydney, therefore very tourist friendly.
As has been said before, there is not a majority of whites, its very multicultural. |

There are racists in Australia like any other country but in general Aussies are tolerant, friendly and don't discriminate. Your friend should have no problems. |

well im from qld and we r pretty easy going up this way. Its the small western towns in far north qld i wouldnt be visiting. They dont even like aussies who come from the city - many of them still live in the dark ages. Most (but not all) are pretty unwelcoming when they see any stranger in their town. But i would have 2 say that due to how mulicultural Australia is u would have more chance of being accepted here than anywhere else |

No way, although you get stereotypical subcultures everywhere, although nothing that is a concern, unless you do wrong by someone in the wrong crowd. |
