Brisbane is south east Queensland, Cairns, North Queensland. Perth is the only major city in Western Australia.

Map here http://www.cairnsattractions.com/maps-australia.html

Cairns > Perth 5-6 hours on plane
Brisbane > Cairns 3 hours on plane

For rentals or house sales go to http://www.realestate.com.au - type in a city and search for an idea on prices.
The average 3 bedroom home is around $350,000 without pool in Cairns... and that's for an average house. Rent in Cairns for 3-4 bedroom with pool (new home) around $350-400 pw.

This guide is excellent http://www.justlanded.com/english/australia for topics like visas, housing, jobs, education, everyday life in Australia etc....

Brisbane & Cairns are on the east coast
Perth is on the west coast
you cant find 2 places any further apart in Aussie

Perth is across the other side of australia from brisbane and cairns. It would be about a 5 hour flight. Bricklayers are needed in perth, but give it 2 or 3 years and the building market may level out and you may not be needed anymore. To rent a 3bed house with a pool in a good area you are looking at no less than $500 per week. To buy you are looking at at least $750,000. I don't know about Brisbane and Cairns, but I know they would be cheaper to rent and buy in.

Very happily married.

They are about as far apart as you can get, about 4-5 hours flight I would say.

Housing construction has slowed show most companies don't need to advertise at present. You go to them rather than they come to you at present. But that can change anytime soon because there is a huge pent up demand for housing.

Try the big builders like Scott Park, Plunkett, AV Jennings, BGC, Ross North, or if you like big commercial projects, Leighton Contractors, Holland, Multiplex. There is work available in some country areas as well paying top dollars from time to time.

Brisbane and Cairns are plane trips, much like going to Spain on holidays - too far to drive to, but a nice week away from work.

To rent what you want in Perth could be as low as $300 per week in outer suburbs like Gosnells or Mirrabooka, or even cheaper in the outskirts like Armadale, Wanneroo or Mundaring.

Because 3 bedroom houses weren't made for the last twenty years and are only just coming back into style, you will find what your looking for in old suburbs and most have pools because they are on old large quarter acre blocks, and the rent will be cheap at about $350-450 AUD upwards per week.

Brickies are in demand in Perth, but its 1000's kilometers from Brisbane and 1000 more to Cairns.
Housing prices depend on which suburb, in which city you chose. Rentals are very reasonable and you will find something to suit.
