Just emigrated to Australia. Living on the Gold Coast. Where would you live in Australia?

Have lived on the Gold Coast for 7 months now and was wondering where in Australia we should visit as a possible place to settle down. We like the Gold Coast for the weather, surfing and beaches. We wonder if we can get those things somewhere else in Australia with other advantages thrown in?

I would live anywhere in Australia except the Gold Coast. I loathe the place. I live in northern NSW, about three hours from Brisbane. It is perfect there. I'm currently living in Darwin for a few months and it's good up here too.

Anywhere in Queensland is better than the Gold Coast. In NSW try the Central Coast north of Sydney or south of the city towards Nowra. If you want surfing nearby then your choices are around Sydney or Perth. Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart don't have surf, you have to go a long way to find it.

I'd go up the coast to the Sunshine Coast. Better beaches nicer towns and a LOT less tacky and touristy. Either that or Margarets River in WA. Great beaches, great surf and fantastic wines!!

Used to live outside Sydney and that was nice. So many places to visit in Oz. I think Perth would be really nice for British emigrants too as the climate is less humid.

You have chosen one of the more expensive areas of the country as every resident of Melbourne and every twerp with a taste for the terminally tacky wants to go to the Gold Coast. You could try the Sunshine coast nth of Brisbane as the climate is about the same and it may be a bit less expensive though I'd actually doubt it. Another good area which may be a bit less expensive is the ranges behind Landsborough and Nambour, about 45 minutes from Sunshine Coast beaches.

This is a very subjective question and the answer depends on what you want outta' life. With most ozzie cities located on the coast, most will offer you beaches and surfing.
So for example, to probe a bit deeper, some Q's -

Do you plan to bring up kids there?
Do you need labour based job opportunities or more professional type of opp's ?
Do you want to be part of a growing economy or prefer a quieter, more laid back town/city?
Whats your seasonal weather range preference ?
The questions go on and on....

If you really want people to help you, then you wil need to be more explicit and say what it is that gets yr juices going, what you desire for the future and maybe the 'group' could then provide some objective input. Otherwise all you will get is a bunch of personal views and pro-whereever type comments - as most of them have been.

Wow you lucky thing, I so envy you living in Australia, been there twice this year and just love the place, we went as far up as Cairns and just loved it there, very laid back and friendly, I think you have picked one of the best places to settle down in Australia, good weather and lovely beaches, I would opt for the gold coast myself if we were lucky enough to be able to emigrate to Australia.

Banbury, Perth is said to be very nice.

Or maybe try Cairns, Queensland.

If you are happy why change though?
