I am not sure where you are from but i would give him a gift basket of all things associated with the country you are from. Then there are some keepsakes from his home country - just say a teeshirt or a football jumper, maybe something that has his countries name of it - sort of stuff that you would buy if you were a tourist in your country. |

I think those digital photo frames are great you can load it up with some pictures from work nights out etc and things that'll remind him of the UK. I just think they're such a brilliant idea.
I've seen them on Amazon but there are other websites selling them too. |

Buy him a 'Lonely Planet Guide to Australia' or a 'Pilot Guide to Australia.' |

Go to www.edible.com
There are some really cool little things on there, i ordered one of my mates a few things for his 18th. but maybe that's not as suitable for someone a bit older and (hopefully) more mature! :P who you might never see again!
But get him somethign he'll enjoy, i.e. a decent bottle of whiskey if he likes it! |

Get in touch with the Hash House Harriers (loads of web sites) and get a hash t shirt for him and a hash phone number for him to contact when he arrives.
HHH are an international drinking club with a running problem. The emphasis most definitely on the drinking - running optional.
He will meet loads of people and have a great time - what better present could you give? |

How about having a picture took of you all and putting it in a nice frame to give to him as a reminder of you all and a good book to read on the plane too. |

If he is emigrating then a card and cash would be better than a present easier to carry and wont get broke or crushed. |

I guess the obvious things that come to mind are sunblock and insect repelant, but seriously, cash or a guide to Australia are going to be the best bet!
Good Luck |

Sunscreen (at least 30+ SPF), a surf hat, thongs (that's flip flops to you), a stubby holder and a pair of sunnies. Oh if you don't know what a stubby holder is try get to an Aussie shop and they will sort you out. Plenty in London. |

Be careful. Don't get anything too crazy because the Australians can always be more crazy than you in return!
At airport shops you usually get cheap alcohol, perfume, a few stuffed toys and the ubiquitous big toblerone bar, right?
At Sydney Airport giftshops you get stuffed cane toads, crocodile 'leather' goods of all types, bottle openers made from kangaroo's arms and even multi coloured kangaroo's scrotum money pouches, in several colours, with a drawstring. You buy them individually or in packs of 5 (so lots of friends can get one). And if you don't believe me go there and see! |
