I will miss him dearly. He did more to promote Australia, conservation and the Australian wildlife than any other Aussie. He was our real-life Crocodile Dundee.

The outpouring of emotion here has been amazing. The entire nation stopped to watch the Steve Irwin memorial (entire workplaces and schools stopped and planned electrical work was delayed so houses would have power to watch it).

Steve made me so proud to be an Aussie and we will miss out mate!

Addition: I just saw what d291173 wrote. Fair enough, you are entitled to your own opinion (that is what this is for). However, please do not say that, we in Australia hated him. I am part of Australia, and please do not speak on behalf of me as I do not agree with you.

We loved him in the USA too!

I'm sure this will be an unpopular response, but here in Australia, we hated him. We saw him as an embarrassment and a cliche. Now that he's dead, of course, everyone loves him (and will tell you that they always did), but during his lifetime, he was only really popular with those who were suckered into thinking that the cliche was the reality of Australian experience. Most Australians didn't hear (or didn't care) about his conservation work, all they knew was that he was "that knob off The Crocodile Hunter".

We do not all have crocodiles and koalas in our back yards, we do not all ride kangaroos to work.

In life, Australians saw him as a simpleton. In death, a saint.

I think that it is a horrible, horrible tragedy!! Steve Irwin (The Crocodile Hunter) was a truly remarkable man! He loved the wildlife kingdom with all of his heart and soul. Not only did he show passion toward wildlife, he also did a great deal to help save and preserve it!! His work and great deeds are known all over the world. He shared not only his love for wildlife with the world, he also shared his family and the love he had for them and the passion he had for getting his family involved in what he did!! When he met his horrible demise, he then again, was filming for a documentary to share with the world his love for the wildlife kingdom. He will be missed terribly, and through the actions and loving eyes of his family and whoever knew this remarkable man, Steve Irwin will yet continue to live!!!

Why's the rum gone? ☺☮♥ ツ♫
I am an American and though I did not know Mr. Irwin, I had great love and respect for him. My heart broke for Terri, Bindi, Robert all Steve's family and friends, but most especially for the animals that Steve loved so much! Steve will live on in our memories. He may be gone, but will never be forgotten!!!

We are Americans, and we loved him too. We were and still are big fans of his show. We lost a great one. We feel so bad for his family. He'll never be forgotten.

hey d291173...BACK OFF buddy, who the hell says we didnt love him, i think he was the funniest crazy person i have grown up to watch on tv, and for you being an aussie, thats harsh saying that stuff, i dont think your proud to be aussie at all..infact, what are you, asian, muslim, indian, well guess what, your not aussie, if you can say they he was in embarressment to us all, then it is you who is the embarressment to the australian culture.. Steve will be missed and i am proud to say i am australian and that he did indeed make a difference all the time, he never once embarressed me, maybe scared me a few times at some of the crazy things he did, but never ever would i bag his name or what he did for this country..it is you who is the idiot..and i think you deserve to die..
And also, i think the whole world knows now that we have never ridden kangaroos, or even had pet ones, or infact have any wild life living in our back yards, but there is indeed many australians who do see them everyday, like myself who does live in the country, i have seen alot of wild life, i think you just need to get out of the city boy..see your australia you live in..not the smokey city..so you know what, if people think we do ride kangaroos and so on, they thats there own stupidity, not ours..the australian life style is being the layed back friendly people who would help a stranger..not the rude stuck up nasty intruders that dont give a damn about no one..australia needs to remember who they really are, and stop allowing these idiots like you to reck our counrty and give us a bad name...
