Manly, Bronte or Maroubra? Where is best to live.?

My boyfriend (29) and I (26) are moving to Sydney for 2yrs and thought about living in Manly for the beach life, would Maroubra or Bronte be other alternatives. He is working at Darling Harbour. We have narrowed it down to these three.

Well Manly is probably the best choice. It is the most cosmopolitan and has the biggest choice to choose from in terms of housing, shopping, nightlife, relaxation and activities etc. Its only downside is that it's on the Northern Beaches meaning big commutes to the City (or Darling Harbour for that matter) either by the Manly ferry or by bus (there are no rail connections to Manly). But it would have the most varied lifestyle and would be my personal choice.

Bronte is in the Eastern Suburbs district and, while being beautiful, would be frightfully expensive. You are much closer to the City, so catching a bus would be a lot easier than Manly, but it is near one of the most exclusive and expensive areas of Sydney (Eastern Suburbs).

Maroubra would probably have the most affordable housing of all three beach areas, but it's far away from the city once again. Maroubra Beach itself is one of the less scenic beaches (it's quite a plain beach) but if housing affordability is your primary concern then Maroubra would be okay. There also isn't much in the way of entertainment or facilities at Maroubra and once again, transport only marginal and long commutes.

My personal choice would be Manly. It's very pretty, has a lot going for it, and has a variety of things to do. And if you don't mind a half hour drive to the city (longer if you catch public transport or travel during peak hour) it sounds like it'd be the place for you.

Personally, I would recommend Manly. The community is the epitomy of avant garde Australia. It is the quintessential Australia. Between the beach, the cuisine and the shopping, there is no historical or modern reason not to select Manly. There is a past here, with the immgration history. There is a present here with the beaches, and there is a future here, with hope of the past. While the present is an economic reality (sorry, not inexpensive), the future here is Australia. Virant, metropolitin, and pure Australian.. Please accept my personal greeting. Come to Manly. Enjoy.

I wouldn't live in Manly if you paid me. The eastern suburbs are much closer to the city and Darling Harbour and you can enjoy the nightlife without having a $100 taxi fare to get home. You have a greater choice of beaches in the eastern suburbs too. The advantages of the eastern suburbs outweigh anything Manly has to offer.

Definately not maroubra, maroubra is heaps crappy and rundown. Live in Cronulla
its a beach suburb but way better then those other ones.

I would probably go with the Eastern Suburbs, although i'm on the Lower North Shore which is actually Gods Country ! There is a rivalry with those on the Eastern Peninsula. You may find places like Bondi Junction very affordable compared to Manly, much closer to the City as well ! Enjoy !

Go to Maroubra, it is close to the city and cheaper to rent than the other two suburbs and u can walk to Bronte. Maroubra is safe and clean.

Have you investigated Coogee, near Bronte. Much better shopping centre and a quick bus ride to the city.
