Melbourne's land is uneven?

In the CBD, has anybody realized that the land is really uneven? As though it is all tilted downwards towards South. Does anybody also find it inconvenient that they enter a shopping mall from ground floor and find that they have to take an escalator down to get out of that ground floor?

And your question is?

And what are you proposing to do? Make the whole city even - just for YOUR convenience?

This happens all over the world, mate. That is what we call... landforms.

Cheers from New South Wales.

Yeah, hills are funny things aren't they! I would have thought though that the Melbourne CBD hills run from the west up towards the east - the Parliament end of Collins Street has always been known as 'Pill Hill" (because of all the medicos there).

I have never seen a street completely flat...dude, it's against nature...we can only do so much.....look at all the people with plastic surgery who repeatedly go under the knife, to appear more symmetrical, and therefore more beautiful. Does it work, maybe in perception, but in reality most of us can tell a face that has been cut up straight away, which already gives way to the fact that the person is displeased with the way they look....nothing at all to do with how their own perceived disproportions were viewed as an imperfection by society. Even Salvador Dali who I think personified perfection and imperfection as being characterised as all and one the same in his Art... said, "Have no fear of Perfection, You'll never reach it" . My question is why do you interpret Melbourne's peaks and troughs as imperfection? Does the city work? Yes. Is it Marvellous Melbourne? Yes. Are we going to be Obsessive Compulsive just to destroy what is already beautiful? I think not. Most perfect is that which is natural.Concrete paths and roads are purely 4 accessibility...I'd be more concerned with getting lost in Sydney than a slanty road in Melbourne.

Unless it is a danger to society, I'm quite happy with how most of our roads are.

Elizabeth Street used to be a watercourse leading to the Yarra prior to the buildup of the CBD. Yes, the CBD does tilt downwards towards the south.
