Melbourne Northern Suburbs?

We are moving to Melbourne later this year - my work is just north of the airport. Any suggestions for family friendly suburbs? We have a five year old. Many thanks!

Just north of Tullamarine is virtually countryside. Sunbury is a bit further north and has lots of housing estates and lots of other 5 years olds I'm sure. I bit further toward the city is Essendon which is nice.

Sunbury will be the best of those places.

Because your work is just north of the airport, I'd go for Sunbury. It has a country atmosphere about it, and not that far from the city.

Some great family friendly suburbs with great restaurants, cafes, shopping, schools, etc are:
Moonee Ponds
Essendon
Airport West
Gladstone Park
Ascot Vale

Best of luck!

anwhere really on the calder freeway (if you have a car). I would say that coburg, pascoe vale, glenroy and jacana are all good places to live in. I'm in pascoe vale now, and it's literaly around the corner onto the calder highway which would take me to or past the airport.

But being the middle suburbs, the rents/housing prices aren't cheap, though not too bad either.

i'd probably go somewhere halfway between the city and where ur going to work because the airport is a reasonable distance from the city...jade mentioned som pretty good suburbs, id add essendon to that list as wel even though its a bit further out.

every suburb is generally family friendly
here are some suburbs that are in between the city and the airport
coburg
preston
northcote
essendon
all these suburbs are really cheap
