Melbourne vs Brisbane to study & live for 1 year?

Hello all, im 28 yrs old and looking to study for a year in either melbourne (la trobe bundoora) or brisbane (QET), which of the 2 would be more fun and better to live? i'm thinking in terms of public transport, convenience, beaches, nightlife, expenses, and people? thanks!

Brisbane's a beautiful place to visit, but Melbourne's got more variety & more going on in general in terms of entertainment. It's got great food, nightclubs, people, art, museams. Beaches near the city to all the way down the coast, and an hour or so's drive to the ski resorts.
The only thing about Melbourne is that the weather is pretty changable throughout the day., You need to dress in layers!
Brisbane's weather is plain old gorgeous, except it does get VERY hot in summer. Usually not a problem cos of air conditioning.

Hey, I'm a Melbourne uni student and love it!! Melbourne has all the sport, great cafes, great pubs/bars, great beaches, great transport and I think we have a much better social scene than Brisbane. (Although, to be fair I've only ever spent 2 days up there!! lol) Anyway, best of luck!

I have never been to Melbourne but I recently stayed in an appartment in Brisbane for four days. Brisbane is absolutely beautiful, the ferry's are a great way to travel and it's not far to fun places such as the Streets Beach at Southbank (where there are lots of restaurants). It has great weather and plenty of beaches.
