Hellothere

Melbourne weather too hot?

I looked it on weatherbase it looked reasonable. But for anyone living in ths region, do you ever long to live in a cooler country? Does the weather bother you? For how much of the year, what times it is best?

The warmer months are from mid to late September to early April.

Melbourne summers are generally hot and at times the weather can be unpredictable but like all major cities (Canberra does NOT count!) it is situated on the coast and beaches are everywhere. It does not get as humid as it does in the northern capitals where it gets humid from September onwards.
While we don't get snow in winter it does get very cold and this is due to the wind which constantly blows here. It can whisk the warmth from your body very quickly. Winters are meant to be cold and only Tasmania, most of New Zealand and South America are on a lower latitude than where Melbourne is situated. It's lack of height above sea level saves Melbourne from snow.
Melbourne gets plenty cool...no need to go elsewhere

Melbourne is wayyyy too cold

It's freezing here - when I walk in the mornings it's often 1 to 2 degrees!

The whole 'Australia is hot & has nice beaches' thing is a lie.

for a brief time in summer[dec to feb] it can get hot. the average would be around 29 Celsius. autumn is lovely [mar to may] a few hot days but usually around 20 to 25 Celsius . winter cold {june to aug] 12 to 16 but still has beautiful days of winter sun. spring is turbulent can be hot, cold, or moderate all in one day.[sept to nov] again the average is similar to autumn. my favourite seasons are Autumn [colours of trees and temp.], and spring [flowers and trees coming to life ] . the northern regions of Australia are warmer and have more predictable climates. i love Melbourne for it's changeability[seasons all in one day] . i enjoy the rest of Australia for a multitude of reasons

In summer there are the occasional hot days getting over 40,but the average summer I don't think is too hot. But then, I recently moved over to Perth from Melbourne because I like the heat and the winter in Melbourne is cold (By Australian standards).
I would say October- December would be the best time in Melbourne weatherwise.

Born 'n bred Victorian here.
And the facts are that Sydney has more rainy days than Melbourne.
Sure, we get grey, blustery, wet, miserable days in "spring"; but generally, the weather in Melbourne is pretty "temperate".

As for whether the weather is too hot... we (probably) only get around fourteen days of "extreme" heat each summer (on average). For the most part, our summers tend to spend most of the time in the high-20s to mid-30s (75*F - 92*F).

But MORE IMPORTANTLY, we don't have a lot of humidity; unlike Sydney or Brisbane (for example). So while Melbourne's summer's are "hot", they are also "dry". At least when you do walk outside on a day of extreme heat, you walk into an "oven". I really hate humidity; just can't abide being hot and sweaty and feeling like a wet rag.

Melbourne can get pretty cold but i think overall the temperature is nice. Sydney gets warmer and QLD gets warmer again. In summer it gets up to 40degrees, so pretty hot but that's what the beach is for :)
Best time to visit Aust. would be Spring - September to November.

I guess you have never been in winter. I was there two months ago and it was freezing. They get proper seasons which is nice if you want to move to Oz and feel you would miss winter.

lts not too bad our summers usually get to about 40C which is about 105F but it can change to 25 the next day(about 80F) its very unpredictable but l think thats a good thing, it gives you time to recover from the continues heat when you get a week of really hot days. The hottest months are mostly January and Feb. March isn't too bad, not to hot only the odd ones .Winter is 12C-16C (55F-65F) in the day time and drops to 4C (40F) at night, its cold enough for me l wouldn't like to live in the snow areas.l love it here, the warmer parts of Australia usually get the monsoon period
where they get heaps of rain.

arbitrary k
Certainly.

Visited Melbourne last July, and it was Hot!!!

It reminded me of a typical Coloradan spring day and at noon, Summer.

Are you for real?? For the most part of the year, Melbourne is cold, dark, soggy, bitter, overcast grey and miserable and just plain depressing. All because of the weather. Then in summer, it gets boiling hot... Melbourne weather is the WORST by far in the world
