better start organizing visa's it isn't easy getting a visa to live in oz

The first place you need to look at is http://www.immi.gov.au

It's the Department of Immigration website. It will tell you what you need to do to immigrate to Australia. Don't be naive - it is not as easy as just getting on a plane and walk into the country and start working.

Just so you know Brisbane is not on the beach and is not a small city it is the capital of QLD. There are plenty of nice places around there though I'm sure you will find something to your liking. I am not sure what advice I can give you about living there though cos I am in NSW.

As far as i know brisbane is not on the beach, Surfers Paradise is though and it is a small city about an hr south of brisbane

The surfing is fun all around the island for beginners the more choice spots you will only find living there for awhile. Personally there are some wicked cool waves to the left and alot closer to the coast but the reef below provides both some cool surfing scenery or a major hazard if you bail

Brisbane has got some beaches mightn't be top ones, what about Shorncliffe(where i live), Sangate, what about the lagoons at Redcliffe ,Bribie Island, beautiful wild surf beach and at the other side there the calm waters to swim, fish, dive.
Noosa is about 1 hrs drive from us. 40minutes away is beautiful Glass House Mountains, then Malenly good veiw of the sunshine coast from there.Can see right in the distance the city of Brisbane, many good points of interest here.

leasing a car? for a year, to dear by one and sell it when you leave.
surfing not Brisbane go to the gold coast.
whats a small city 2 million 1 million? i like gold coast, its easy to get around and you can still work in Brisbane if you want to.
its a nicer place to live, but that's just my opinion. the weather is great. night life is good. you'll have a great time.

if you wanted to live in australia for only a year - then a working holiday visa would do - but very unlikely to get a job in your chosen fields.
brisbane is on a river & at least one hour drive from any coastal beach. It is also not a "small city".
can you work as an optometrist without a local license?
leasing a car could cost as much as $2,000 per month & there would probably not be a one year lease available - most are three years. much better to buy a car when you arrive & sell when you leave.
re travel - how much travel can you do and work at the same time?
surfing info - gold coast (south) or sunshine coast(north) beaches are closest to brisbane - about 1 1/2 hr drive
for jobs - check the websites
others have given you good websites for visa info.
check the ads in the courier mail - brisbane's only newspaper.
