Moving to Perth?

Hi thankz for answering my question much appreciated.

Well i am planing to move to perth from new zealand in june 2008 maybe earlier, I have neva been to perth but have heard its a great place to bring up a family. I am wanting to know which area of perth will suit my family. I want to live in area that is walking distant to beach, shops, schools and public transport and if not in walking distant a short drive say 10minutes to everything. I am planing on renting a 3-4 bedroom house, budget for renting is from $200.00 to $280.00. I have two boys aged 8yrs old and 5yrs old. I looking for a safe and clean area, that is family orientated. My partner is looking for a welding job also in the area.

Any suggestions even tips on living in Perth will be greatly appreciated. Also thanks for ur time.

well you cld go 2 the northern suburbs, umm westminster (formely part of balga) is good about 15mins north of the city. theres a local primary school (the only or one of 2 in WA that has a seprate junior primary years pre primary to 3 to the senior primary 4-7 on the same campus and a kindy not too far away) there are plenty of high schools around such as mirrabooka, morley, balcatta, balga, warwick, and plenty of private schools. also shopping centres are a close walk away the city and beach are about 15 mins away with public transport on your doorstep dependin on where in the suburb u be located at max a 5-10min walk. (not the best area but good and cheap) lots of familes with children about ur kids age around.

I looked up the website quoted in answer above, for Rockingham which is outside Perth, on the beach, and found 3 bedroom houses renting for $200 - $430. Most were about $250. Fremantle, two for less than $300, some up to $800. I double checked - yep, weekly.

To find names of other suburbs you can check, have a look at the map on

good luck on finding a place to rent at that price.

i've just moved OUT of the rental market and in with a friend as i was getting robbed by my landlord. $200 (which is extremely good according the lying real estate agent) for a run down old two bedroom unit in a HUGE block of units 15km's from the city.

jobs are all over the place - there are places closing down as they simply cannot staff their business adequately.

check seek.com.au

anywhere near the coast in the metropolitan area would be easily double that, just for a unit.

you'd need to get out of the perth metropolitan area - either about 50k's north or 50k's south of the city centre.

rockingham is a good start or way up north of the city at the end of the metro train line. currambine/clarkson and surrounds.

Perth is a nice place to live but i dont think you will really find a place like what you want. The rent and stuff is insanse here. Im living in a 2 bedroom house in a sorta bad metro area and i am paying $200 per week. I dont think your going to find a 3 or 4 bedroom house near the beach and stuff for that price. You might be able to though. Go to this link and see what you can find in the way of properties. This one is a really good site. It has tons of houses. The website is:

I would first like to say "Please don't listen to The Rhino Plan - as this person has given false information.
I was born and have lived in Perth for all my life. I am 23 and i know that yeah we are small and interesting and different to other places. But same with all cities around the world.
Perth is a wonderful place to live, we have a beautiful city with alot of really nice people. There are some suburb (like in all places) which are a bit unsafe but if you ask a real estate agent about these places then you won't be amongst those types.
It think you should come to Perth and experience it, if you don't like it then move, but at least you have experienced it.

Also the places close to the beach are really prices and i doubt you would get one around there for the price you are looking for.

balga and westminster are undisirable areas heaps of nasties live there

The Rhino ---->Plan B<----
trust me, they did up the city (even though it's tiny) but the people don't change. It is filled with bogans, racists and asian teen gangs.

go to Adelaide or Brisbane
