Must see places in Australia?

We're getting married in Sydney this december and will be there for christmas and new year. We where going to stay in Sydney for 4 weeks, but are wondering is its best to have two weeks in sydney and two weeks elsewhere, but where?

Cost permitting, where is a must see place, bear in mind the cost and spends of two weeks in syndey, this would go against there other part of oz to visit.
Additional Details
Just to clear things, we will be in sydney for 2 weeks and im asking where else to go in australia for 2 weeks. Not the must see places in sydney.

OK well i would certainly fly to Ayers Rock and see the famous Rock called Uluru! Do the sounds of silence dinner...it's an absolute must do and also do the sunrise at Uluru too. You could spend 2/3 nights here and maybe do the Valley of the winds walk around the Olga's as that's quite spectacular.
Then from there I would fly to cairns and maybe stay in Palm Cove for 3 nights with maybe a 3 night stay on Hamilton island. You will then see the barrier reef!
You could also then fly to Brisbane and stay on the famous surfers paradise or the gold coast. Call in and see the late Steve Irwin's zoo...it's best zoo ever!

So my thoughts for you are this:
Sydney - 2 weeks
Ayers Rock- 2 nights
Cairns - 3 nights
Hamilton island 3 nights
Brisbane- Gold coast 7 days

I'd split it if i was you, but while in Sydney a must is katoomba, known as the blue mountains, parrots flying in the wild, steepest railway in the world, cable car, and three sisters rocks, go early and you can go for a lovely walk, with paths at the bottom of railway, katoomba is 2-3 hours from Sydney central station, when i was there they had a trike outside katoomba railway which was great fun. in Sydney don't forget Sydney harbor bridge walk, amp tower, darling harbor, with maritime museum, bondi beach, and manly beach from circular keys, and kings cross were there's a lot of action, as regards another place I'd say Melbourne, and the great ocean road, lots of good museums, lots of sport history with the MCG, captain cooks cottage shipped over from england, they are both vibrant cities in different ways. have a great time what ever you decide to do, and have a great wedding

Go to the Hunter Valley and do some wine-tasting. There are some wonderful tours available some of which include balloon rides. It's a beautiful part of the country and well worth a weeks stay because there are so many wineries. You can do some visits yourself but I would advise hiring someone to take you out for a day to drive you, and they also know the makers (I can recommend someone if you want!)

The Great Barrier Reef would probably be my top choice, and plus it will probably be a nice change if you've spent 2 weeks in a relatively large city like Sydney. You can hire boats and sail around the Whitsundays (some of the whitest beaches in the world) and just spend your time snorkelling/diving and enjoying the beach life.

But it completely depends what kind of couple of weeks you want. Melbourne is also lovely, and Uluru is another must-see really.

Get to Byron Bay for a couple of days.

My Top 5 would be:
Great Barrier Reef
Uluru/Katadjta (Ayres Rock)
Tasmania S/W wilderness
Kimberleys
Kakadu

Because of the distance you'll have to fly I suggest that you choose one , then come back again

Go somewhere along the coast line for a few days, and just relax..

Congrats on the wedding.

After a couple of weeks in Sydney, I suggest getting away to the islands for your honeymoon. Hamilton, Great Keeple (sp), Daydream, etc.. Off the QLD coastline.

I'M going to suggest Melbourne
Firstly I'm bias I live down Melbourne
Secondly its the shopping and food capital of Australia
Also has great entertainment, sport, Great Attractions from Healsville sanctuary & Werribee zoo to longer drives out to the Great Ocean road & Philip Island penguin parade and lots more.

Sydney Bridge. Climb it for a terrific sensation and tremendous views of the great city.
The zoo and aquarium are also very good.

Melbournes good...

Or try driving to mellbourne via Mt Kosiusko national park, it's abolutley beatifull, has some awsome views and natural scenery.. Also the highest peak in Aussie, which you can walk up in a day. Is about 12km round walk. The blue mountains near sydney are good too, i think you could see all that in two weeks and also near mellbourne.... The Great Ocean Road, is an amazing costal drive, need a day at least to do it...

While your in Sydney check out Manley... Thes a 9km scenic walk south of manly thats great ...
And Palm Beach, man that place is the best beach near sydney, worth spending a day or two up there..
