Australia is a Huge country most people have no idea how spread out we all are. It would take you months 2-3 just to do the east coast with any sort of thoroughness.
I would suggest you choose a state & main city. & work from that whats to see & do. Any state of Australia has many things to see & do with the family. Plenty of places to camp ( free & paid ) if you choose to go the motor home way. |

Like the first poster said, Australia is a very big country and you need to pick a state, so what are your interests is the other question?. If you pick Queensland you will be coming here to the most ideal weather conditions and you could start at the Gold Coast, which has Dream world, Movie World and Sea World which has lots of water rides and things to do re the children. Then make your way slowly north and see Australia Zoo and see all the attractions here on the Sunshine Coast. It also depends on what your budget is of course and what you can afford to do. both the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast have Great Beaches, but remember to swim between the Surf Life savers red flags and don't forget the sun block lotion. |

Queensland for all the theme parks etc
Adelaide for Churches
Melbourne for coffee shops and shopping
Sydney for opera house, harbour bridge etc
Tassi for a range of things fruit, wine, cheese,
Northern terr for the beautiful nature and all it holds
Canberra if your into politics
Western Australia all so have a range of things to see
this all depends on the time of year you want to come |

If you'd like to do some travelling in Australia by motor home, I'd like to suggest a website that could be very helpful.
http://www.thegreynomads.com.au/
I know you're not a retired couple BUT the Grey Nomads know what they're talking about when it comes to places to see and travelling Australia by mobile home. They do it for months on end.
I'm sure they would happily answer any questions you have and give advice in their forum.
Their website is very informative.
Have a wonderful holiday. |

As a lot have people have said here, it is all dependent on how long you have spare to visit Australia. If it is months, then you could see a lot of it, weeks then focus on a couple of areas.
A lot also depends on:
- your budget
- the type of holiday the family enjoys e.g. "backpacking type accommodation, camping, mixing it up a bit etc.
- the time of year you are visiting
Motorhomes are great options but be careful where you book them and who you book them with. For example, I had a visitor from Germany a couple of years ago, who hired a four wheel drive because he was told he could not drive a hire car off the paved road! (all the interesting bits in Oz are off gravel roads) Now this is patent rubbish and it cost him 1000 euro a week instead of , say 250-300 euro for a car......
Feel free to email me if you want any more information |

Defintely spend as much time as you can down here - its a BIG country!!
Places you should check out:
Queensland (The Gold Coast has heaps of family things to do and see such as theme parks)
Sydney (Do all the obvious tourist things - Sydney Harbour Bridge, etc)
Melbourne (Great Ocean Road is fantastic!!)
Have fun! |

Depends how long you want to go for. Sydney is a must see, Canberra, the Gold Coast and up to the Great Barrier Reef. Melbourne is great and also the NT if you have time (Darwin and Uluru). If you're going for months I'd go by motor home. Otherwise, it takes too long to drive to different places so it's better to fly. Hope this helps. |

I would recomend WA, Bunbury but thats only because I grew up there.
But seriously, dont go to sydney, so over rated and full of crime. North West Tasmania has a few nice places, like tasmazia and great wine but not a lot for kids.
Melbourne has Luna park, but one day and youve seen it all.
Where as, Brisbain has great places for kids, amusment parks, water parks... you name it, and great shopping... i think that would be your best bet.
Stay for 2 weeks, and although a motor home is exspecive to rent, and will cost a lot on fule, you may also require a truck licence or bus, you will more than likely save by taking one because of the exspences of car rental and accommodation |
