National costume of oz?
i don't think so.
But the stereotype of an aussie includes
blue Bonds chesties, thongs (or flip flops not g-strings), the cork hat or some sort of hat, footy shorts.

Australia doesn't really have anything official other than an Akubra hat and oil skin coat. Australia isn't old enough in history as such to have established such a costume.
The hat and coat named would be a recent innovation and the closest to what you mean.

Alan B
Australia is just too big for a national costume, what's good for the tropical north would freeze someone in the south, and the Drizabone coats used recently by APEC leaders as a national costume would be too hot for the tropics. National Costumes are for smaller countries!

Iam australian. We dont have a national costume for our country. The answers here about blue singlets and thongs is wrong, these were a image created by the media many years ago, although we all wear this gear as our country is very humid and hot. These items are very common wear all over australia. Our national colours are green and gold if that helps.

fanta
shearers singlet thongs(flip flops)shorts and a carton of beer with ya dog be your side

LOL! It depends on where you live.I see people in the stereotypical shorts, thongs, and singlets when I'm at the coast, but since I live in a rural area I also often see jeans, boots,Akubra and Drizabone coat,or jeans and a flannel shirt.I also see everything in between! Australia doesn't really have a national costume.

There isn't one. When we are required to pull one out of the closet, though, we dress in colonial gear. Long skirts and shawls. That kind of thing. Not terribly pretty :)

Off to the stock auctions at the saleyards or a day at Haddon Rig.
R.M Williams riding boots
Holeproof "Computer socks"
R.M William moleskin jeans
Gloster shirt with two pockets
Wool tie
Tweedy jacket
Akubra hat
Chesty Bond singlet (undershirt)
Bond's underchunders.
Drape a Toyota Landcruiser around this.

Down the mine
Can't Tear 'Em or Yakka overalls
Yellow jacket with reflective stripe
Dunlop T-boots with steel toe caps
Holeproof Explorer socks
Yellow, red, green or white safety helmet
For underground wear, a wide leather belt with battery and attached cap lamp

Female office dress (boring)
Black Jacket
Black skirt or slacks
White blouse
Black shoes

Anything else you can think of including T-shirts with idiotic message on the front "Vote for Pedro" etc.

Never seen a hat with corks except in old cartoons.
