Never seen snow in my life. Where is the best place in NZ to go skiing? |
Im going to Canada for Christmas in 2008 and going skiing at Jasper.
But as im an aussie thats never seen snow, I wanting to go somewhere local before I look like a fool to the Canadians.
A few friends say that New Zealand is cheeper than Australia to get to the snow and its better, so im wanting to go to NZ for a ski.
But where does an Aussie thats never seen snow in his life go for a good ski, at good prices???
I have been to that newzealand.com but that makes it more confusing!!
Any locals wanting to give advice??
Thanks |

Mt Hutt near Christchurch is really good for beginners. I'm not a good skier and I haven't been for years, but I really enjoyed going there. It's close to Christchurch, which will be a lot cheaper for accommodation/food than Queenstown (Another popular place for skiing). You can even stay in Christchurch and easily take day trips to Mt Hutt. |

Queenstown in the south island in New Zealand - it's compared to Aspen, USA so people say.

G'day! I would suggest Mt. Ruapahu on the North Island. It is really neat! |

In the South Island, Queenstown is the place to go. It has two major fields (Coronet Peak and Remarkables). Close to that is Wanaka which also has two and one, Cardrona is great for learners. TC (Trebble Cone) is a little more challenging. Queenstown is a mini Aspen and can be expensive, Wanaka is a little more chill.
There is also another ski field near Christchurch called Mount Hutt that is pretty sweet.
The North Island has a couple of great fields but I prefer the South. |

I didn't think it snows in Australia?
Just wait until your trip to Canada, it will provide more memories of the trip. |
