uhhh, we aren't evenly matched.

NZ has a population of 4 million, it's the size of Sydney. Whereas Australia has 20 million.

The Australian economy is much larger, with a GDP on par with turkey, Indonesia and much larger than North Korea, Iran and Isreal. NZ economy is around the size of Morrocco. Kazackstan's economy is larger than NZ's.

NZ doesn't have an air force, well no fighter planes anyway. NZ army is much the same level of technology but much smaller. Australia has 75 F/A-18s and 24 F-111, soon to be all replaced by the second most 'advanced' fighter in the world, the F-35, second only to the F-22.

You are wrong in believing that it would be an even match. I have nothing against NZ, but really I am just telling the truth and I don't like to see people with misconceptions.

EDIT: to the first answer, I believe Australia's large landmass would provide an advantage rather than a disadvantage. With anyone trying to Attack Australia, much of the war would have to be won in the air. Seeing as NZ doesn't really have any fighters, the army would just get bombed into submission. With a large landmass, even if the Army loses on the ground (which it wouldn't), you have the ability to sacrifice land for strategic purposes, because most of the land is mainly dirt and sand.

Even against Indonesia, with Australia's larger and more advance air force, the same principals could be applied. With such a large body of land an advantage.

We would never go to war against each other, except for on the football field or the cricket pitch.

After all, together our countries are the ANZACs.

Andy
Australia would win easily and I'm from New Zealand.

It would never happen though.

Australia, hands-down. Australia is such a large land mass, an invasion would take awhile, while the Aussies could much easier bomb the living hell out of the Kiwis.

I guess the larger land mass would also make it harder to defend Australia, though. But the Australian population is much larger - around 22 million as opposed to around 4 million Kiwis.

EDIT: As for the answer below me... I think experience doesn't matter much. You aren't going to find any soldiers who fought in WWII still in the military, so they can't put their experience to use; hell, tactics might have changed quite a bit since WWII anyway, so their experience might only have limited use. That, and the Kiwi soldiers are trained, just as Aussie soldiers are trained. They aren't just given a gun and told to go out there like some $500 mercenary.

I agree- it's never ever ever guna happen. NZ's more likely to join Aus as a new state!!
Plus, NZ would get totally annihilated by Aus... our military here is tiny!

QLD RULES
Australia you fool

Nz has no guts if Aussies invaded Nz the Maoris would run for the hills and the whites would in brace us Aussies.

Ok this is a stupid question,im a Kiwi and we aint dumb to go to war with a country 10 times bigger than us,its like suicide material,But in saying that i mean us kiwis will be outnumbered,BUT if we were evenly numbered then it would be a different story.New Zealand was one of the highest rankings in the SAS,BUT then why would we go to war with the Aussies? We work together not against eachother.....As for you Aussies Dont get too cocky because we do tend to bullie yous in your own country aye????

Australia....because they have more of a history of war. I don't think NZ has a very experienced military.
