New Zealand water question? |
When I visit New Zealand in the next couple of weeks can I drink the tap water or am I better off buying bottled water? |

The tap water here Is clean, fresh and beautiful. Some parts of the country has better quality than other parts. But Is still fine to drink where vever you are. River water down some parts of the South Island would not be safe to drink or swim In at the moment as It has algie In It which has made dogs and humans sick. |

In New Zealand it is okay to drink tap water. They have good water treatment facilities there. Have fun, it is amazing down there! |

Tap water is safe everywhere in NZ. In some cases the quality is better than bottled water. And if you buy bottled water here, it's quite likely that it came out of a tap. |

Yes you can of course!
We are a first worlds country with a modern sewrage and system and water treatment plants.
Unlike in most countires around the world you can also drink from streams and rivers without boiling the water if you are tramping in the bush (away from the tourist trails). |

I visited NZ in Feb,yeh your ok to drink the water,we did and suffered no ill effects.
Enjoy,its a fantastic country,we're going to go again for sure. |

I am from places in the South Island where water is pretty pure. I hate drinking chlorinated water, which some places in do have (I can't stand the smell, but its fine to drink).
I lived on the West Coast of the South Island for 6months and found I had been drinking rainwater, with an open top for all that time and didn't know!! I found this out after visiting a friend who looked like they had a swimming poole beside their house that had frogs and algae in it and was told it was the drinking water.....it never caused me any problems!! |

Tap water is fine for general use. If tramping take bottled water as some rivers and streams may contain Giardia (?spelling). Have a wonderful visit in New Zealand - Haere mai. |
