New road rule in Australia?

I heard about a new road rule from my friend that you now must learn Auto, Manual and earn a medical certificate. Is this right?
Additional Details

No, never heard of that.

There are different driver's licenses where you can do your test in an Automatic transmission car and then you can only drive that sort of car. A manual licence (obtained in a car with gears) lets you drive Auto or Manual.

Elderly people have to get medicals to keep driving but I don't think it applies to younger people, except everyone has to do an eyesight and hearing test when they apply for a licence.

Never heard that before. I was on the RTA website on the weekend and it didn't say anything. But this does vary state to state.

Elizabeth
I'm sure it's not the case in Qld either.
Sounds like someone is pulling you leg.
You wouldn't be getting to the age where you might be going for your driver's licence are you? Someone is trying to scare you, ignore them.

By medical certificate I think you mean a First-Aid Certificate.

Mrs M
That is a load of rubbish and you fell for it.

I think teaching P platers to not drive like morons is much more important.

Caitlyn
no, thats definitely not true

they were proposing it, but it never got out into action

Not real sure what you mean by 'medical certificate'? Do you mean the certified certificate courses at TAFE? Or something like the St. Johns ambulance first aid courses? Not that it matters, the only First Aid or Medical certificate courses that I can think of that need any sort of drivers license is to be a First Aid Trainer, then you must have an ABN and a OWN a vehicle, but it doesn't matter if it's auto or manual.

J-Dogg
Definately NO
lol
i just recently got my licence, and now im on my P's WOO!
and we didnt need to learn both.
i just got manual.

No thats a lie. I got my certificate for CPR when I was 14. You have to be 16 to drive. So, false.

MzTerioz
nah

Dan
Who told you that? Why would everyone need to earn a medical certificate? Just from that part, it sounds absurd.

i dont think so?

Snowbunny Joie
uuummm no...

i have not been told this, clearly this would take alot o money, some people can only afford the lessons and share a car...

plus some people may not have acces to an auto/manual... they may only have one car and it may be a auto (like myself)

so i do not think this rule is right

also my dad works at DTEI (department for transport and inferstructure) he would have told me... also it should have been in the paper??

xx
