You HAVE to finish year 10 if you want to do anything good in life. If you want to work in travel - Flight Centre only accepts people who have completed their HSC and favour people who have done marketing/sales and/or tourism courses.
Heck I've been in international freight for 3 years (I applied at Flight Centre recently for a change - so I could move people around the world instead of cargo - same gist) and have done a business diploma and I still didn't make their short-list!
I don't think people understand how hard it is for school-leavers who have not done their HSC, let alone Year 10 certificate, to find meaningful employment.

You might be lucky to get a traineeship/apprenticeship but you'll get no more than $250 a week for full-time work (I found that when I was attending TAFE for my business diploma, alot of people were trying to make up for not getting their school certificate/HSC and whenever someone told me they earnt $200-$250 a week I would just say "ohhh thats not bad" instead of saying "oh is that all.. I get $600" )

If you want a good future, your only choice is to do your certificate AND your HSC... sorry but its a rat race and there will be many job candidates preffered over someone without that basic education.

P.S. I recommend against doing your certificate at TAFE. Been there tried that and it was just not the same. Go to school where you can still enjoy the last few years of being a "kid" (so to say)
Oh and if you're worried about travel, you have plently of time.
The day after my last HSC exam, I was on a flight to the Rocky Mountains Colorado because I wanted to travel the second I finished school.
You should book a holiday for when you finish your certificate and you'll have incentive and something to look forward to.

You are crazy if you want to work without a year 10 certificate. especially when your older than the age of year 10. You cant get a serious job without it or as you said a good job.

Without one the employers who might take you on would be fast food outlets. You wont get a decent wage without your year 10.

Part of your year 10 certificate relys on oyur attendace, who is really like how you are dedicated.

Employers wont take you seriously, they would rather take someone who has atleast a year 10 certificate or even better is year 12. If schools wont accept you to do year 10, go to tafe and theyll help you out.

Travel is wonderful but so is education.
Year 10 would be good, Year 12 would be even better.

You don't say how old you are. If you're young enough you could go back to school or you could do them part-time, while working, through TAFE or similar.
I know young people who have and have gone on to uni and extremely good careers.
You'll find it's worth it in years to come.

Answer for Dave: Year 10 or Year 12 certificate is the qualification you receive when you have completed and passed that year level of your education.

Get a year 10 certificate.. Trust me! it will make things so much easier to find a job..

I am 18 now, I dropped out in the begining of year 10 .. BIG MISTAKE! i didnt even do my year 10 certificate. That was a few years ago.. Now i am trying to find work so i can pay for tafe, but its so much harder for me to find a job. I went for a few interviews, no luck..One person even told me straight up that they think I'm not educated enough because I dont have a year 10 certificate.

If you want a job in tourism, you will need a year 10 certificate. It will give you a better opportunity.
'
How old are you by the way? Are you in year 10 right now? if you are, just complete year 10..

Just get your year 10 - it really opens up a lot of doors for you later in life, pretty much every job requires one now

yes u should

horzee_chick_4ever
it's kind of illegal to leave school without the school certificate. even better if you have HSC then more ppl will want to hire you and you will be qualified for more stuff.

troubled down under
yes you should.. it shows that you are dedicated and can finish what you are supposed to and when going for a job interview if an employer has an option of many job applicants and the resumes are close to being the same they look at the person's schooling.

If you are looking at beauty a hairdresser has to complete a 4 year apprenticeship. Many jobs require you to do extra training, extra schooling and courses so if you don't complete Year 10 any employer will question your dedication

Also what happens down the track if you decide that what you wanted to do doesn't work out

I dont know anyone in the tourism industry that hasnt got at least year 10.

Most people are now getting year 12 as well. In the past it wasnt that important, but it is becoming seriously important now. A lot of the best TAFE courses for tourism wont let you sign up unless you have a minimum of Year 10 nowadays, and a lot of the best jobs in the tourism field require some sort of TAFE certificate.

Do it. It's not hard.
