People from Melbourne only. What do you think of your trams?

Having previously lived in Melbourne I love the trams. They break down much less than buses and generally have right of way which buses do not. They can't make wrong turns and you can see obviously the direction the tram is going to go (rather than a bus route which if you see a sign, you may not be sure where the next stop is, following tram tracks you can see the road it will be on)

The cons is that when they do break down, it disrupts traffic alot more than what a bus would.

I used to catch the most notoriusly late tram in Melbourne on a regular basis and now they have little information signs which say how far away they are - you could never do that with a bus so that makes it totally good.

For Sydney I don't know how they'd go having them in a alot of places given the trouble you guys have with Bus lanes and what not but I do like that they are an iconic part of Melbourne.

i don't like tram too. but somehow, i don't like bus too. i really prefer the train, and they mostly come out on time.

tram is not too bad only if you don't live too far from city, such as Carlton, Richmond, and you don't need to walk over the downtown, and u can just take a few stops instaead of walking.

the main problem is that tram and bus don't work out in late night, and it seems like driving is neccessary except u live and in downtown area.

Over crowded and not enough seats, but they make short distance travel around town easier...

We have buses too, but they are more for travelling into and out of the city.

Over all, they are iconic and I guess I couldn't imagine Melbourne with out them...

Tram... of course there are pro and cons.

Pro:
* Less air pollution
(and unfortunately that's the only thing that I can think of for the time being)

Cons:
* Prone to delays due to traffic congestion (not as flexible as buses)
* View/sight pollution with all the overhead cables going around sometimes makes some areas looks cluttered
* Noise pollution, although the same can be said for buses/trains

Well... although it looks like there are more Cons in my answers, I still like trams though... honest ;)

They're slow and they stop too often.

Great for short trips within the city centre but far too slow once you get outside the Inner City suburbs.

i like the fact that Melbourne is known for its trams which i find are easy to use in the inner city and probably quicker at moving a lot of people in the city at one time,i.e say after the footy at the MCG when there is a big crowd or during the Aussie open,plus they are more friendly to the environment than buses and get through the traffic quicker than buses which have to pull over- stop-then get back into the traffic.

hard to imagine Melbourne without trams.

they are fantastic, and if you live on a tram line, a very efficient way to get around.

The only con I can see is that most of them could do with a very good clean. especially the seats and windows.

Well i dont live in the city, but when i do go there i use the trams a fair bit. I prefer them over buses and stuff..although i'm not sure why.
I'm not sure you can call public transport cool..but i guess more or less the tram in an icon for melbourne..so they're not going anywhere soon

The tram network is great - the newer trams are clean and efficient and I cant imagine the city without them. Melbourne city is set out on a grid, which makes the tram network very effective.

I love them. Makes it so easy to get around the inner city. Buses are a pain and seem to slow down traffic more.
