In the country towns they often do. I work nights driving and see quite a few in the early hours but not during the daylight.

I live no more than 30 kms from a capital city and I see kangaroos every day !!

I live in Penrith approx 45kms west from centre of Sydney, here there is rough parkland approx 100acres which houses wild roos. This area unfortunately is causing much controversy for development for housing, but any time from 4pm onwards on the other side of the fence these animals can be seen

In country towns yes, and anywhere theres bush nearby.
I live in the mountains and theres obviously a lot of bush around, so you get a lot of roadkill around here when the roo's come out of the bush and try to cross the roads. :( Theres also lots of roadkill on big highways because they're often built through bushland aswell.
