At the moment lots of people are choosing to make Perth their new home due to a booming economy. You have to understand the economics of the state to understand the capital. Economically, Western Australia is the backbone of Australia. I believe that WA has every natural resource mined in Australia, with the exception of Opals. Iron Ore is a major export and a large portion of the north of the state (Pilbara region) is built from it.
Just about everyone I know from the eastern seaboard that's been to Perth, tell me it's like a different country. We have our own way. When the Sydney Olympics were on, overseas visitors raved about how clean Sydney was. Well you should see Perth. I love visiting Sydney for a weekend but I could never live there. It's a rat race and compared to Perth, I wouldn't call it clean. Nothing against Sydney, it has double our population and there are consequences of that.
Add to that, great wineries just a few hours south. Great beach holidays just a few hours north or south. And if you want to be adventurous, head 2/3 of the way up the state and you can swim over beautiful coral reefs or swim with Whale Sharks. Who needs the Great Barrier Reef when we've got Ningaloo!
I suppose globally, we are in the middle of nowhere but that's just perfect for us. Like all cities, it's not perfect but I think it's a great place to live. Beach/outdoor lifestyle. Relaxed. Friendly. Honestly, if I had my way, we'd run a chainsaw along the state boarder and do our own thing without worrying about the rest of the country. |

I live here and I love it. I love being able to drive to work in the city and park and not take hours, it is a fantastic place to bring up a family, IT IS CLEAN!! everytime I go on holidays I can't help but think how dirty everything usually looks.
It doesn't matter to me at all that we are isolated, it isn't too hard to catch a flight somewhere if needed, trips are cheap to South East Asia and we have beautiful places for holidays within a couple hours driving distance.
I admit that if it is the big city life you love eg shopping then I wouldn't recommend Perth but if you enjoy outdoor life, space and beautiful weather then why would you go anywhere else? |

I have lived in Perth my whole life, I have to say I dont feel isolated at all!
I guess it because I have never been anywhere else but its nice and peaceful...you can drive less than an hour out of the city and be completley alone...out in the country is great....there are alot of nice areas and summer is beautiful...nice beaches... nice wines...great cross section of people.... |

What do you mean "middle of nowhere"? Perth is one of the best cities in the world, and we are nowhere near the middle. Look at a map, Perth is the far western state of the best country in the world. We do have all modern convieniences, electric. hot and cold water, cars , buses etc. Where you been hiding? Siberia? |

I have yet to go there, but surely living in Perth would be better than say...Shenzhen or Hong Kong. Who needs 6,000,000 other people to keep one company? |

Perth is uneffected by natural disasters.
Perth has a nice climate, not too much traffic, plenty of parks, bushland, and undeveloped areas. People are friendly in perth.
Perth has a booming economy |

Perth is the world's most isolated provincial capital. Sean is most likely right about the most isolated national capital.
Perth has a comfortable climate, good beaches and a booming economy. And some people see being in the middle of nowhere as an advantage, especially if you can be in the middle of nowehere, but still have all mod cons available. |

No. Perth is not the capital of Australia. Canberra is. Canberra is quite close to other cities but. The most isoloated capital city in the world would be Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia |
