Hi,

It sure does! But don't feel bad, not many people know because we generally promote the beaches and dessert.

Australia is a very large land mass so we're lucky to have pretty much all climates. The snowy parts are on the East Coast side where you'll find a stunning range called the "Blue Mountains" beginning in the state of Victoria and reaching through New South Wales, the other snowy part is our Island state off the South Coast, Tasmania - very beautiful.

Part of the Blue Mountain Range is called "The Snowy Mountains", famous in history for the rugged stockmen and women who live there. Nowdays it's Falls Creek that draws most people there - for the slopes!

The snow fall can start around this time of the year, but usually it will be closer to June. Generally, however, it does not snow in any of our major cities apart from Hobart (capital of Tasmania).

Why don't you come see for yourself one day!

Australia has a couple of snow areas.
There are the Victorian & NSW snow fields both are a few hours drive (3 or so ) from the Cities Some times in Melbourne on a particularly cold day in later winter you may get snow on the near hills but its not permanent & melts generally by midday.

Tasmania gets a bit more snow in winter as its further south .

Basically we get snow we have skiing but its not a huge industry in AU.

Under normal circumstances it only snows in the mountain areas of Australia along the great dividing range in the mid to south of New South Wales and North east of Victoria, and also the Tasmanian highlands. On very rare occasions it might snow at sea level in the south east of the continent (as it did last year in rural Victoria). However usually snow at sea level is an event worthy enough to make newspaper headlines.
