Hi there!
Depending on where you are heading to in Australia, will depend on whether you are going to be at risk.
The box jellyfish seem to move towards the shore in calm waters when tide is rising and gather near the mouths of rivers, estuaries and creeks following the rain.
The season for the Box Jellyfish starts with the onset of the wet across the top of northern Australia, usually around October and lasts until April.... so thats the end of Spring, all through Summer and our Autumn (or fall if thats what you'd like to call it!)
Further south along the northern Queensland or northern Western Australia coast the season is usually from November to March (Summer and the start of Autumn)
They sometimes appear further south a few weeks beyond the close of the season. The arrival of the Box Jellyfish close to the beach prevents swimming in the Surf unless the beaches have the protective stinger nets installed or you wear a purpose designed swim costume. The Great Barrier Reef is free of the Box Jellyfish through all the seasons.
If you do get stung, you have virtually no chance of surviving the venomous sting, unless treated immediately. The pain is so excruciating and overwhelming that you would most likely go into shock and drown before reaching the shore. So don't go swimming alone! Be sure to know the first aid procedures, and remember to FOLLOW THE SIGNS, if there are signs saying "box jellyfish beware" then please stay away from that body of water... or head to one of our water parks :) |

Well Hello ♥
 |
lol pretty sure you dont wanna go in the water in autumn (fall). the water wont be as calm and warm as it is in summer.
Go in if you wanna, you will see them in the water , floating around. they looks like pieces of dark hair floating around,
Your chances are slimmer if your further up north coast ( mullaloo, scabs, trigg etc) . i have experienced more jellyfish in the south west area ( bussleton, mandurah etc ). << This if your coming to Western Australia.
go in and have fun. if you get stung, meh you get stung.
Make sure tentacles are off the skin. if vinegar is available use that on sting, go to doctors if really bad. HOT WATER is th best for removing sting, DONT use fresh water on salt water jellyfish stings (make it hurt more )
You'll be fine. enjoy Australia |

OK, you wont get stung. |

You should be safe - because at the time you will be visiting Australia, all the box jellyfish have generally been eaten by the saltwater crocodiles & white pointer sharks. |

dont go in to the sea. |

When are you going. They are really prone to the area during wet season (November to April) but they are still there all year so you have to be careful. There stings are the most venomous marine animal known to mankind and offten fatal. If you do go in the water be careful cause they are clear so they can not be seen. So if you do go in the water stay close to shore or just don't go in the water and instead get a good tan or go sight seeing while there! |
