Question for New Zealanders from an American: Do you think NZ is like the Canada of Australia?

I mean, runaway leftist government (Helen Clark, who is a crazy socialist) and not much significant going on at all, while at the same time leeching off a more decently managed, conservative Power, Australia (Our ally in Iraq, and their leader, John Howard gets along great with our president!).
Additional Details
Oh, also just realized that both Canada and New Zealand both have a dramatically lower standard of living than the USA and Australia, respectively, so also take that into consideration.

I agree with Brian - us Australians don't like them either!!
What is it with Americans thinking they are better than everyone else? Have they not learnt from such moments in history as Vietnam, Iraq, voting in that dick Bush?
Us Australians aren't proud that too many of us voted in a conservative government - we'd much rather be controlled by a leftist government, you make it seem like it should be something to be proud of. It's not, especially if the states are our model.
I like that nothing significant happens in our part of the globe, i just wish we had a better leader like the Kiwis do - then we wouldn't have soldiers in Iraq fighting for an American terrorist.
Maybe you should read up on Australia and NZ and you'll see that they are totally independent of each other.

From an Australian. Don't ask that. That's like asking a Canadian if they are American. We may make fun of our tasman friends (We're allowed :)) but we value them as our neighbours.

New Zealand is not leeching, they are completley independant of Australia.

John Howard is falling in the polls too, just like George. He recently lost his 'pole' poll position, and it's still slipping.

Kiwi's don't like obnoxious and uneducated Yanks. And as for your stupid little war in Iraq, we don't give a **** about that either.

As an Aussie, I wouldn't mind if John Howard would show some balls and tell George W and his war where to go.
The vast majority of Australians (the figure is something like 90%) do not want anything to do with Bush or his war. As for John Howard seemingly getting along great with Bush. It's called diplomacy and politics.

As for New Zealand: where do you get the idea they are leeching off us? The country is totally autonomous. I don't think Helen Clarke has, in anyway, done the amount of damage to New Zealand and it's reputation that George W has done to the U.S.A.

The man is a laughing stock around the world and you guys voted for him twice. The people who didn't vote at all might have learned the value of voting and not sitting on their hands.

AS an Aussie I admire NZ for not getting sucked into the worlds politics for a little country they have a lot of guts, also they must be pretty modern they elected a female leader something USA or Australia are yet to do.And most people dont like John Howard for sucking up Bushs butt.

Question to a American from a New Zealander, bahahah you voted that clown in? and then again? Sorry I can't take anyone serious that has such a dolt as a leader, sorry to those Americans that didn't vote for him.

NO!
NZ is not like Canada or the USA
(TG for that)!
I was born and raised in America,
but I live and study in NZ.
No, NZ is certainly NOT like the USA or Canada.
That's one of the reasons I'm here.

I think you might be exaggerating a bit....
and it sounds as if you really don't know a lot
about New Zealand or Australia.

I mean, when you say 'not much significant going on'
what exactly is that supposed to mean?

Poor little NZ,
the country isn't involved in any exciting oil-induced slaughters;
there's no nuclear reactors across the country;
and it's a boring little country -
we don't have armed robberies every 15 minutes.

I guess you are right -
there's not much significant going on here
compared to the exciting times in the USA.
You'll never know how grateful I am.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Cheers.

Elizabeth
What makes you think New Zealand has a dramatically, lower standard of living than anywhere else?

Judging from what you've said, I don't think you know much about Australia, New Zealand or for that matter Canada.

Back to school now! Open a text book, you may even learn something.

I'm no particular fan of Helen, but my house of trebled in price since she has been in so that makes me happy.

Who cares about your president?

Lol, why does everyone pick on New zealand!

How do you figure the USA has a higher standard of living than Canada? lol perhaps you should go to Canada and see first hand how your neo-con mentality is completely wrong.

No, NZ isn't like Canada or vice versa. Canada is larger than its neighbour geographically with more resources. NZ isn't. One third of Canada's population doesn't have the same language or culture as its neighbour... NZ has pretty much the same. NZ isn't depedent off of Australia anymore than the USA is dependent off of Canada for resources (what I mean to say is, perhaps NZ is much less dependent).

And for our "leftist" government. You do realize our federal government is Conservative don't you? Just thought I'd clear that up.

Just a pointer.. maybe stop being so ignornat and don't listen to everything FOX news says.

If you mean Canada has vastly superior air quality, lifestyle, friendlier people, better education, health system, beautiful scenery and in general a better moral monitor and a true democracy...then yes because N.Z has ll this too!...oh yeah and no drought problems or a government going against what the people want in terms of war.
