Question for all Australians?

Hi there,
Just would like to know if the English are generally liked in Australia? I know we are known as winging poms *LOL* Only time I moaned whilst in Australia was having to come back to uk!
I would appreciate truth.
When we go to Australia we appreciate the country and people and go with an open mind. We are in awe of your country.
Additional Details
I can assure you all that we will be appreciative of your country. I winge here in UK as it is forever raining! *LOL* Typical British summer today...meant to be attending a school fete...and it is pouring with rain!

Hello again laplandfan.

We do not like people who moan about; 1 no professional soccer, 2 beer is too cold, 3 black puddings are hard to find, 4 too hot, 5 no fry ups in greasy spoon cafes, 6 too far between x and y, 7 chip butties are not though of as real food etc etc etc.

We don't like people who tell us how things "should" be done. Despite the fact that they are new arrivals, WE did not come down in the last shower and for any septic tanks who may be reading, we don't get about in grass skirts and live in mud huts either.

As for the convict thing, transportation ended in 1860. During the gold rushes of the 1850s, more free people arrived in two years than all the convicts that had been sent in the previous 70 years. That means there are more UK people recently descended from 19th century convicts. We do get a little tired of hearing about it from the ignorant.

Whether or not you are generally liked depends on you, not your nationality.

Aussies always have the country rivalries in us but we also have a very accepting side to us aswell. So if your somebody we can have a good time with and can call a good mate then your welcome here anytime.

Hi, some of my best friends are "poms", lol and the answer is if you dont whinge at us about how backwards our home is and how much better your country is we like you just fine. I guess we just dont get why poms are here when they keep telling us that England is better. Im really glad you like my home, we will look forward to seeing you again someday!!

Edit
I am decended from convicts and bloody proud of it!!

I like English people in general,my mum is English. I'd love to go to England one day.

I live in a Far North Queensland tourist town. We get alot of backpackers from all over the world and also general tourists. I must say, the English girls are a hit in town, especially the ones from Essex!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know why???? Generally you guys are okay, but there is just too bloody many of you, but then again, that is why we are a tourist town!

The_Mouse
In the question, you mentioned that you have already been here in Australia. Then you SHOULD know the answer to your question.

We may seem to pick on you poms a lot but then - us Aussies are a sarcastic bunch and we "picked on" everybody but it's all friendly fun. We love everyone and don't care where you are from. Just treat us the way you want to be treated and you will be fine. Just don't come here complaining about our country - because if you don't like it - then stay home.

Cheers, mate.

AussieGirl
Most Aussies love to complain about poms in Australia, (whinging pom etc). We love to hassle you about losing the ashes, drinking hot beer, eating greasy food etc. But, I will let the secret out - we love you guys!! Please come back and visit us again.

mariemlm
me china plate's a whingin pom & he came over in 1951 from the uk and i love him dearly and have for 17 years.
as you've been here before you know there's heaps of poms living here & we all get along - except when the whingin starts of course.
no one likes to have their country or customs critisized.

Melbourne Girl
Yes the English are generally liked in Australia. Like anywhere in the world - no matter the nationality of the person - if they are going to be constantly whinging, moaning and complaining, they are not going to be liked. We generally take the person pretty much as they come - to a certain degree, and cerainly have our own share of whiners moaners and the like..

ENGLISH people are puffs!! they lost the ASHES 5-0

Daisyhill
Just asked my Aussie partner...he said Aussies do like Brits. but we moan too much! I have to admit that I whinged a fair bit in Australia "Too Hot"" "Too many killer bugs" "Crappy clothes" No heating in winter despite the fact that temps really drop over there...so yes I whinge and am a pom...

I reckon they're a bit tougher than us...face facts they are all decended from crazed loaf nicking burgalars so it's only to be expected!
