Questions for Australians? |
How popular is John Safran? (I live in North America, but I download his Sunday Night With Safran podcasts, and was wondering about this)
Do must Australians have a glow or tan? (The British seem to be rather pastey; Canadians seem to be something in between; Americans seem to be tanned in the Southern US.)
I had an Aussie professor who had a tan, even when it was -20 C outside, so I was wondering about this.
If you were a university student, would you go to a 3 hour lecture? (My Aussie friend said that lectures are shorter in Australia, because no one in Australia would go to such a long lecture)
How often do Australians go to beaches?
Thanks for answering! |

John Safran has a cult following in Australia, but he isnt a huge celebrity. He hosted a couple of shows on SBS TV here. SBS is a low rated alternative/world channel. He also sometimes has a show on Radio Triple J which is a national radio network here for alternative music.
Most people in Australia have heard of him, but maybe not know what he does or who he is. I like him.
Regarding tans: It's sort of hard to say. It all depends on the persons ethnic heritage, and lifestyle. We're a pretty multicultural society, so it's not unusual for a person to have some link to a Mediteranian or Asian heritage which would give them more of a tan I guess. But it also just depends on their lifestyle when they were younger: If they spend more time in the sun as kids, then they'll have a tan. If not, they'll be more pasty.
University: A three hour lecture is very long. It's not unheard of, but it's very uncommon for a lecture to last three hours. I think they prefer to have more, shorter lectures here as it's easier to concerntrate in them.
Beaches: Again, it depends on the persons lifestyle. 80% of the population in Australia lives on the coast and beaches can get very, very crowded in summer and on long weekends. Some people visit the beach everyday after work in summer, whereas some people might only go there once or twice a year. |

All the above depends on the person...
most caucasian australians do not have a tan because it is dangerous. However many outdoor workers have tans, and aborignail people. It also depends on your ancestory.
Dont know never heard of that John bloke you mention
Aussie friends of mine go to the beach every day. I am sixth generation Aussie and I only go about 4 or 5 times a year. I only go to the dog beach. My dog likes it and I enjoy being with her.
Not sure about Uni lectures, but I do know that Australians by nature do not like to que for anything. (que means line up)
If there is a five people in front of you, Aussies tend to leave and come back later. |

Have been to 3 hour lectures, they usually have a break half-way. It is not common, but not unheard of either. IF people don't attend then that's their stupidity showing. |

It all depends on the Aussie. Most Aussies don't fake tan but some do and some Aussies tan naturally but these days it's happening less coz Australia is the highest country for skin cancer in the world. :( But it's still an awesome country!!! :] |

You have been watching too many soap shows.
I, like many other Australians, live near the beach, but I don't make a point of "going to the beach" - it is just something that is there.
Most of us live near the coast as that is the only inhabitable part of the country for us (sub)urban people.
People from places like Alice Springs rarely go to the beach.
Never heard of John Safran. |

beaches? we go about the same as normal people....lol..unless you live near the beach. i live in the suburbs no where near the beach but we usually go to a coastal spot for holidays about 3 times a year???

John Safran, never heard of him.
Tan depends on the person and usually thier heritage. Europeans are more likely to tan then those decendant from the UK. Australia is multicultural so you can't generalise that we are all tanned, though we do have good weather and conditions for tanning purposes. My parents of dutch heritage tan but not to the point of being brown more sunkissed, I am a natural redhead so I don't tan =(
Uni lectures in Australia vary from 1.5 hrs to 3 hrs. It is dependant on the course and subject, you have no say as to how long a lecture is.
Some Aussies go to the beach daily all year round, theyre your surfies. Some will go on the weekends in summer, some may go only when its really hot, others only on long weekends, some only go once or twice a year. Depends what is meant be going to the beach, I often walk along the beach but I don't go sun baking. |
